It will be if they actually overturn RvW.

The next Women’s March won’t be so peaceful.

Here are the clinics that would close immediately due to trigger laws.

Very likely that trigger laws ban IVF in at least a dozen states this summer:

One of the legislative initiatives that has been undertaken by several states is a statute creating a trigger ban on abortion, wherein the Supreme Court striking down Roe would immediately result in an automatic complete abortion ban statewide.2 So far, twelve states3 have passed such trigger bans, and several other states are poised to follow and ban abortion entirely, should Roe be overturned.4 These trigger bans could have far-reaching, unintended (or perhaps completely intended) consequences not only for pregnant people, but also for those trying to prevent pregnancy through common methods such as birth control or the “morning after” pill.5 Additionally, the trigger bans may have significant impacts on those pursuing in vitro fertilization (IVF), as well as on the providers of such services.6

Hi, welcome to the political forum, maybe learn about the filibuster.

Has there never been a time when D’s could have passed a law? That can’t be true.

There were two months between when Al Franken was finally seated and when Ted Kennedy had to step down due to brain cancer, so pardon us for not solving every effing problem that the Republicans have caused since 1980 during that time.

The closest we ever got was early in the Obama admin and we were stuck with losers like Lieberman and Nelson trying to crater part of the health care bill.

And keep in mind one of the reasons that Dems are 50/50 right now is because Bill Nelson was one of the most useless senators ever and, as an *incumbent* managed to lose to Rick "let me raise your taxes" Scott in 2018.

So women in need of all manner of reproductive services are forced from their states to find them? Step up ladies and fight for your rights. You don't need to get pushed out if your own home state to get what you need. Ivf is a long protracted journey. Not something you want to do out of State.

Also, abortion has been basically illegal in Texas since September. Where are the stories of coat hangers and women dying and rape victims giving birth? I haven’t read any. Maybe this won’t be so bad. Maybe (gasp) most people are actually fine with this or they’ll figure out how to go to California or New York if they need to. The lack of Texas horror stories is telling. Maybe this isn’t the emergency liberals scream about. Makes you think.

Can I make you think about specifically which times in the last fifty years that the House had a liberal Democratic majority with enough votes to pass something like this, while simultaneously also having a 60-vote filibuster-proof majority to pass it on the Senate side, with a conference committee in agreement? Fill me in.

Between April 2009 and January 2010, the Democrats had a filibuster proof 60 vote margin in the Senate. It was when they passed the Affordable Care Act without a single Republican vote. That’s not counting pro-choice Republicans (and there are some). They could have passed an abortion bill, if they had wanted to do so. The reality is that there are always red and purple state Democrats who do not want to vote on abortion as an issue.

Maybe they falsely assumed that RvW was safe.

Who would have thought this might happen in our lifetimes? The US is imploding. I guess the Rs did want to burn it all down.

Would it be a Texas-style law that you can be prosecuted even if you leave the state?

Clumsily worded but point remains. If you have such a health care issue with giving birth, then see to it that you don't get pregnant.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have two planned pregnancies go to term without suffering any health care issues. But my mother wasn’t so lucky before I was born. She suffered from extreme hyperemesis during a planned pregnancy, which became life threatening so she and my father made the difficult decision to terminate that pregnancy. Then I was born.

Every time I hear anyone say that choice shouldn’t have been hers, all I hear is that I shouldn’t exist. Nor should my children. F them all.

Oh please, he can just issue another idiotic executive decision, like he does w everything else.

DP. Dear lord, are you really that effing stupid?

Yeah, they all are.

So the Democrats are in position to lose heavily in a few months then a "leak" that’s never happened before shows up, hoping it will outrage enough to reverse that trend.

Anyone else think it’s not real?

Any DCUMers in the crowd outside the Supreme Court right now?

Try more like ten months between Franken being seated in April of 2009 and January of 2010 when Brown was seated to replace Kirk (D) who had been appointed to replace Kennedy.

The Senate didn’t vote on either on an abortion bill or the House climate bill during that time. I wonder why? Perhaps they had members on their own side that didn’t want to vote on those things?

You moved the goalposts. Kennedy was voting, and then he wasn’t. Again, were you alive in 2009, and do you still have a functional brain who can remember the laundry list of sh!t that Republicans left the fleeting Democratic supermajority to solve. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t everything.
