Shooting at or near Burke HS?

Bears repeating: 200 rounds fired from assault rifles legally purchased and assembled in a manner so they could be used as fully automatic. Photo shows 3 extended clips (about 25 rounds each) and drum magazine (about 60 rounds).

200 rounds fired
Another 800 rounds in AVA apartment

Thousands of rounds in Fairfax apartment, plus addition weapon constructs

No known connection to EBS
No known motive

Rented Van Ness apartment in January
Also rented apartment in Fairfax

Served briefly in US Coast Guard

Purchased two Stouffers meals at Giant shortly before incident

Also believed to have used a giant purple suitcase to bring weapons into his apartment. There is a tip line set up for people with any information.

MPD still reviewing video. They have surveillance footage from AVA including on Fifth Floor.

The shooter was live streaming using a rifle scope with a video card. He also had a camera rigged to monitor the hallway outside the apartment.

Police want to hear from anyone who may have interacted with the shooter at any point. 202-727-9099.

Where did he get the money to rent two apartments and buy all the guns and ammunition?

Part of the ongoing investigation. A lot of cash to front for weapons and ammo. Plus AVA monthly rents about $1750. That’s $7000 since January, in addition to rent in Fairfax.

Probably Covid relief funds. A ton of fraud in the payments - particularly the unemployment payments.

Okay, so the guy grew up in Montgomery County.

What’s his source?

He’s the source. He’s a reporter. Apparently scooped the Post. Excellent twitter follow.

News Channel 7 names the suspect and he's from Fairfax!

"The Metropolitan Police Department was looking to speak with Raymond Spencer, 23, of Fairfax, Virginia, whose name they became aware of through social media, Assistant Chief Stuart Emerman said."

Ugh... this is someone who quite possibly lives a few square miles away from me, assuming this is Fairfax City...

Why is this so shocking? What's your point? This isn't about you.

Not pp, but maybe because it's creepy to think of a killer being so close by.

I heard the gunfire, and based on what I heard (four bursts roughly equal in length) and having watched the video the shooter posted (of two of the bursts, 30 shots each), I had estimated 120 rounds. Interesting that the police are estimating 200, and I'm curious if that's based on spent shells or something else, but don't suppose there will be further detail. I know that bystanders are not entitled to information, but living very close to the site of this shooting I can't help my curiosity and have so many questions, especially about the shooter and his motives.

Why are local news outlets cutting out the Yakub photos on his apartment wall? They are already out there in national media photos and people have made the connection with 4chan and assume this was an antiblack shooting

People are also attempting to make a connection to the NOI and assume this was an anti-white thing. No need to distract from the arsenal apparengly purchased legally and then was brought to bear on children in a school.

I didn’t think it was anti-white. I thought that animated NOI poster was being used on 4chan to symbolize anti-black violence and ideology

But why that particular school? And why was he also searching his alma mater (Wheaton HS)? Why did he have more weapons in Fairfax?

Trying to attribute logic to someone with a mental illness is a fool’s errand.

Except: the search for a motive is central to all criminal investigations, and it has not been established he was mentally ill.

There are people who believe the theory that anyone who commits a crime must be mentally ill.

I do not believe that theory.

Exactly I mean for the most part my area of FFX is a bit bubble. I don’t lock my doors car or home and I don’t feel unsafe walking down the street. I never hear gun shots. Always thought school shootings happen somewhere else. It rather unnerving and anxiety producing. The world is going to hell in hand basket.
