Trump gave a roadmap, but every insurgent who has primaried an establishment candidate all the way back to the tea party should be an indication that republican primary voters do not care what the chamber of commerce thinks |
I mean, there's a lot to unpack there. First of all, how are those insurgents doing in general elections? Second of all, isn't the big problem with Lil D that he is seen both as an establishment candidate, and also as a whackadoodle? Like the people who want a normie R see Lil D as too volatile and frickin weird. And the ones who want an insurgent see him as faking being an insurgent while at his heart he's an establishment Bushie. He isn't playing 40 dimensional chess here. He got high on his own supply. He bought the hype but didn't do the work, and it's showing. He's also a fakie faker who stands for nothing other than trying to grab the Fox spotlight - but even at Fox they are back to sidling over to Trump, who like it or not really is Lil D's daddy in this scenario. A bloated, addled, drooling, incoherent but still weirdly compelling daddy. |
^ Also, this is a focus group of one - but there is one weirdo in my otherwise blue Florida neighborhood who has a Trump flag out on his yard. For a couple of months, he had a sign in his window that said DeSantis and Daddy 2024 - with pictures of Lil D and Trump on it. Now he's back to just putting out Trump signs. I usually use this guy as some barometer of where the nutty part of the party is leaning. I think they're losing interest in Lil D. |
You can't win a general election unless you win the primary. DeSantis is doing everything possible to not be the establishment candidate because he knows that they have zero chance. Someone like Haley may be great in a general election, but we'll never know because she'll be down in the others receiving votes category in every primary along with Hutchinson and Sununu |
Haley is trying to be the weirdo anti-woke candidate, too. They all are. We'll never know how a normie, pro-business, small government type would do in a primary because we'll never get one of those. They are all campaigning as if pronouns are the greatest threat to this country's happiness and prosperity. Lil D had to understand that out front, he was putting on a show of being a whackadoodle, while behind closed doors he was assuring Big Business that he's stable, normal, wants low taxes and a predictable business environment. Instead he's going after Disney as if Disney threatened his mom. He's out of his league. As I keep saying - he might turn this around. Who knows. Maybe he's hired some better advisors. Maybe he'll catch the right wind. Who knows. Who knows! We could all get that unlucky. But right now he's floundering. He believed the headlines about being the second coming, the great hope who could save the country from Trump while also drawing in the rabid MAGA crowd, all that. He didn't seem to realize that now he actually has to perform. |
Correct. I'm in the suburban white mom demographic. I've already dealt with the transgender/gender identity issues with my kids and I feel pretty good about it. Same with historic racial issues. All those discussions helped me understand what my kids were seeing, how they were processing it, and I hope let my kids know they can talk to me. At no time was I mad that transgender people exist or that accurate historical information was taught to my kids. I am not interested in how government can sole what I consider non-existent problems. If you have issues then explain your views to your kids. If you can't do that in a way that makes sense that's a you problem. I'd like to retain my parental authority to manage my realtionships with my children, thank you very much. You want to talk about infrastructure, healthcare, gun violence/gin safety, proper staffing of our schools, the environment, shoring up social security, or a host of other things that a government should be doing for health, safety, and welfare of its citizens, let's talk. |
What is serious is that overturning Roe is a disaster for all these anti choice candidates and they all refuse to deal with that. It the GOP will not run a pro choice candidate they will lose. |
I couldn't disagree with you more. Scott is a great candidate with a compelling story. He says nothing false in his video. He is a huge proponent of school choice... something many families are aching for after the disastrous results of Covid. He is also a strong proponent of criminal justice reform. I like Scott a lot. I hope he does well. |
The suburban moms with kids in public that republicans need know that school choice means less funding for their kids' schools |
I guess the roadmap is that Kamala Harris will be picking our next president. #winning |
I am the person you are responding to - and I thought Scott might be a good candidate. But his video was about wokeness. That's not about his great and compelling story, it's just the same R nothing nonsense. Oh well! |
Scott will not break through. He might do ok in Iowa if there is no other republican alternative. DeSantis is dead in the water of course. Already see Trump ads destroying him on social security and medicare. Done. Looks like he's dropped nearly twenty points in the last month. But Scott is no savior for the republican party. Pro-lifers, 2nd amendment people, Chamber of Commerce folks, racists - it's a difficult thread the needle situation. And Trump has the Cult of Personality thing going. That's a majority of republicans right there So we're looking at 82 year old Joe Biden vs 78 year old Donald Trump. Wonderful. Awesome time for American democracy. The wild card is Joe Biden's health. He'd be 86 at the end of the second term. Really rolling the dice America. |
If Biden is the nominee he will have the same job he had in 2020....to deny trump access the the oval office. That is it. All the other awesome stuff he did is gravy. He had mission accomplished on day one and the same will be true for 2024. |
