Why?

What is the GOP platform in 2020 and currently, and you will have your answer.

The GOP platform = overthrow the U.S. Got it.

I could see a wealthy moderate like Romney running. Someone who can self-fund and make their case.

There's a significant contingent of Republicans who don't want Trump to run again. Focus groups have teased out that sentiment. These people will never vote for a Democrat, but they want someone less bombastic and more disciplined.

Romney has more of a chance of winning the Democrat primary. You might as well say Liz Cheney should run. A basic calculation when determining who will win the Republican nomination is to see who Bill Kristol and rich white Republicans would like, take them out of the field, and then see who’s left.

It's got to be someone rich enough to self-fund. Maybe Hogan can get there if backed by a coalition of wealthy conservatives who sat out 2020.

Hogan is a Democrats version of an ideal Republican. He has as much likelihood of winning a Republican primary as Joe Manchin or Kristen Sinema have of winning a Dem presidential primary.

He reminds me of Tony Williams (who was this Republicans version of an ideal Democrat ). There are a LOT of us who are willing to make deals, who are not single issue voters, who want to continue on America's path of social justice but find cancel culture both shrill and somewhat terrifying... We need some candidates who appeal to the rational and who offer a vision of functioning government.

I live in Florida, in a blue city and a very blue neighborhood. There's one guy in my neighborhood who flies a Trump flag, and a LGB flag.

In his window, he used to have a Trump/DeSantis 2024 sign. (Homemade, I assume.)

This morning I saw that he had a Youngkin for Governor sign in his yard.

I feel like assuming Trump doesn't run - and maybe even if he does - Youngkin might be the guy, if he's appealing even to weirdos like my neighbor. Youngkin does seem to have some special magic of both whispering to normie Republicans that of course he's not like these lunatic Trumpies, but if he can do that and still make weird Florida guys put his sign on their lawn - that's not nothing.

Once that happens, life will be much easier for our country...It will create a faction of psychopaths with little political power ...i hope. I would really love to know what % of self identified Rs would support Trump versus a Romney type figure.

This is not going to happen. Those with a brain have seen they can get massive amounts of votes from the crazies and can then use the resulting power to further their agendas.

Trump will find a way to completely humiliate the other nominees. Youngkin would be ripped a new one. Remember Trump has people like Roger Stone who play dirty politics feeding him material.

There are no “normie” Republicans. Anyone who was willing to cast a vote for Donald Trump, let alone twice, has left the land of normal and floated into crazy town.

I hope to God someone normal like Romney runs. If not, I'll vote for Crenshaw in the primary because he looks like a fascist dictator. Might as well cast the MAGA moron who most looks the part.

God you spam so many threads with this rhetoric. Just over and over and over again.

Yep and if it were a Republican doing it, they would be blocked. Such worthless comments all the time.

Let's Go B-don - the anti-Biden flag
Anonymous
Just remember, that Biden is only 3.5 years older than Trump. If Donald Trump is the GOP candidate in 2024, then he will be six months older than Biden was when Biden ran/won in 2020. For all those who criticized Biden for being too old to run, they need to remember that Trump will be even older. Not only that, but Biden was in good physical shape exercising regularly, jogging, riding a bike and keeping in decent health and weight. Trump, on the other hand, is extremely unhealthy. He is obese and his only exercise seemed to be riding a golf cart around a course. He is one McDonald's burger away from a heart attack or stroke and there has still been no explanation of the unexplained, unscheduled helicopter trip to Walter Reed which was likely a mild heart attack or stroke based on the physical quirks that he exhibited for the period of time after that visit (the odd walk, dragging one foot, the limp hand on the same side, the slurring of speech, needing to use an extra hand to lift a glass of water, tripping going down a ramp, etc).

And Donald Trump's mental health was already worrisome when he was in office. He was showing clear signs of mental decline such that hundreds of mental health professionals expressed concern that he needed to be evaluated by a mental health professional. Another 4 years is not going to improve his health, but worsen it. At his age and health, he should not even be considered a serious candidate. And considering how many complaints that his supporters had about Biden's age and mental health, the fact that they are even considering supporting him is just hypocritical.

When will Biden announce that he's not seeking re-election. This has to be done very carefully, no?

The Republicans are going to jump all over it when he does, claiming he was never fit for office, etc.
