That Youngkin will lift the mask mandate no Day 1 and he will ensure that mask mandates stay because they keep schools “safe.” Terry is not reading the room right. By January kids will have ample time to have been vaccinate, I sure hope whoever is governor lifts the mandate by then!

And watch the teachers begin to quit. I'll be first on the list. I will not teach unmasked and unvaccinated children.

You don't appear to back science when it comes to kids + Covid + spread (which has been documented to be low).

Do you spend your day yelling at your kids when their masks slip below their noses?

I don't yell but I certainly do instruct the student to pull up their mask over his or her nose. Almost every child responds with alacrity to do so. Only a few kids, those kids with behavioral problems anyway, will refuse to do so. Refusal to do so merits a call home. I have not had a single parent tell me I was wrong and EVERY SINGLE PARENT has told their child in no uncertain terms to pull up the mask and keep it there.

And your children will grow up with very week immune system for never having been exposed to germs. Making them susceptible to other diseases later in life.

There were actually 14 RCTs done prior to COVID on masks and the flu, 0 showed masks help.

If a teach wants to quit because they want children unnecessarily masked, good riddens. If you don't feel "safe" teaching, there are plenty of non-teaching remote jobs you can do.

The masks should stay for the time being. There is too much spread and too few vaccinated. They do work and are working. It is not great, but it is safer and it is working. Let's see where we are in the spring after we get some 5-11 and more older kids vaccinated.

And for what it is worth, I voted early for Yougkin. He may allow the mandate to be lifted but local school shoudl be able to, and will in my opinion, keep them for a while.

Exactly - OP wants kids to mask for at least 5 more months before even talking about offramps. These people are nuts.

Once kids have had a chance to get vaccinated, they need to come off. And kids are going to school in many parts of Europe without masks but OP says requiring masks here "is safe and it is working." LOL

And more older kids vaccinated?!? Isn't APS at like 95% of kids 12 and over vaccinated?!? WTF.

It’s the teachers at my child’s high school who are getting Covid, not the kids.

We must not be in your class. I would have broken your perfect streak.

Kids are getting Covid at my kids school because they hung out outside of school unmasked.

So sure let's take off the masks in school too and just let Covid spread!!!

I was just talking with another teacher in our NoVA district during Trick or Treating tonight and we were both saying we hope masks become optional this spring once ages 5-11 have sufficient chance to be vaccinated. There are schools in many parts of the US that have kids and teachers going to school without masks. It's not just Europe. I'm not saying we should go without masks now, but we have to set a point at which we can. Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax...they are all in the 2.2%-3% positivity range right now and 5-11 year olds aren't even eligible for the vaccine yet. Infection rate is around .89 to .90 in those three districts. Daily new case counts are in the 8-10 range per 100k. If it continues to trend downward and children get vaccinated, I can see our 7 day average case counts dropping to close to where they were this past summer.

I'm sure it's because they weren't wearing a mask. That's exactly it! lol
