So are there going to be any tax hikes now?

There are certainly not going to be 87,000 IRS agents hired - I know that.

I'm sure the Democrats will find a way to increase taxes. They have never met a tax they didn't like.

What means do they have to raise taxes now? Are they going to do stuff in budget reconciliation or whatever? I have no idea how it all works. Is there still a way for them to raise taxes this year or soon without Republican support?

No and no.

The only way is through budget reconciliation and they're not going to pass a tax-raising bill solo via recon this year. It would be suicide in a mid-terms year as well but never say never with the progressives.

I'm just assuming at this point that Manchin is going to switch parties or go independent in 2022. He done did Biden, Schumer and the Progressives dirty. Hopefully the Dems will stop shoveling money at rural areas. I am tired of subsidizing the red states. I am tired of bailing out the red states. I am tired of being told that we need to spend billions on roads in WV, the electrical grid in Texas, broadband in the Dakotas, natural disasters in KY, and basic education in the South and then told that we can't afford anything for natural disasters in NY or childcare in urban areas. We need cost of living adjustments on all federal aid.

I’m glad about the No vote. This would have shoe horned in socialism. If we could just somehow work on the woke stuff and myopic endless identity politics and ending that, we’d be in better shape. Maybe maaaaaybe we could end the progressive criminal justice reform policies being instituted in democratic cities that put people in danger because they actually exacerbate the spike in crime. Anyway, I think we can all agree it’s good this bill was killed. Manchin is good.

What I personally find so perplexing is that the democrats keep harping on and on about voting rights, while:

1. They keep saying “it’s 49 senators against 1” when it’s actually “51 against 49”, and

2. They refuse to accept Joe Manchin’s vote, and they keep thinking they can bully and coerce him into changing his vote to what they want.

It strikes me as such hypocrisy. They need to accept people’s votes and also learn to count.

You are buying the crap that Biden, et al, are selling.

Manchin was crystal clear with Schumer - months ago - about what he would accept. The Democrats didn't negotiate in good faith. It was doomed to fail.

Didn't negotiate in good faith? You mean like what happened with Merrock Garland and Amy Coney Barrett? Explain to me how any of that was in good faith on the part of the Republicans?

+1

I think it was the constant accounting tricks that did it for Manchin in the end. It’s just not good faith to reduce a permanent program into 1 year and claim that it’s funded. Outrageous.

That’s ridiculous. The program you’re talking about is the child tax credit. It was good for a year and now it’s expiring. That’s not “permanent” and it wouldn’t be in a new bill either.

Sure. Because entitlements always expire.

Biden and the Democratic Party have already inflicted a lot of political damage to themselves throughout the course of 2021. Manchin’s comments only further weakened Biden’s image as a leader.

At this point the Dems themselves are doing a great job of writing a book: “10 Ways to Get Trump Back into Office.”
