Who would this be?

Garlin Gilchrist. A 37-year old from the Detroit metro. I just read up on his bio and it is pretty interesting. His resume includes engineer at Microsoft, Campaign director at Moveon.org and Community Change, Chief Information Officer of the City of Detroit, and a researcher at UMich.

I actually went to college with Garlin. He is brilliant and insanely tall. Garlin Gilchrist is a name we will be hearing a lot in the next couple years (and rightfully so!)

Perhaps it would bring out the AA vote in Michigan if Whitmer got the VP nod and then Michigan would have the first black Governor of the state. It seems like a win-win in Michigan- a state Biden needs.

Does this really indicate something? Maybe she just wants to get out of the market?

Netflix in a pandemic....LMAO.

Yeah, Netflix stock prices have gone up 150 bucks in the last six months. Financial security is definitely not what is driving this decision.

The Obamas are out there because DJT is a fool. The Bushes are 'out there' too. Maybe Laura will run?

Has the Bush family endorsed Biden?

Hundreds of former Bush administration officials endorsed Biden:

They call themselves 43 Alumni for Biden.

This is why Harris is the VP - she has the credentials, the experience, the legislative background, and no ghosts in her closet.

Tired of people lobbying for ‘unknowns’ on the national stage who will just be an Achilles heel to Biden when something comes out. Harris has essentially been in vetting since 2012. If the GOP has something on her it would have come out long ago.

If Harris is the VP why won't he just announce it?

"A Black?" Egads, Biden is not under pressure from POC of color to pick a woman of color - he seems to be under some pressure from young white millennials (who NOT AAs, actually cost us the election in 2016) on the left flank - but AAs could give zero effs if he picks Harris or Bass or whomever - they just want to win and get Trump who is killing them out of office. Appointing an AA on SCOTUS or AG would be far more consequential than VEEP. Heck, assuming Biden cannot last two terms, we will likely have an AA governor from whom to pick in 2024.

Agree with every point of this.

+3, and I’m “a black” fwiw and think a white woman has always been a safer pick for broader electability. Also don’t think telegenic is any value. Everyone looks better than Drumpf. Grisham Duckworth Whitmer is much more charismatic and each attractive differently not that it matters.

He could pick C Rice and we would vote for him. That would be a bold move but could he trust her or is she a safe gop defector? Eh. Just a musing.

As a POC, I agree. He should just pick someone solid that won't turn away older, white voters. Someone with a bureaucratic background and no political record, or a celebrity like...Oprah. Someone that people will feel is positive or neutral. Everyone is sick of polarization. Please let's just get Trump out of office and start rebuilding this country.

Obama didn’t announce until August 23rd.

Why rush? Trump is martyring himself quite nicely.

There will be polarization until people no longer believe they need to cater to old white voters. And celebrity like OPrah? No we do not under any circumstances need anymore political celebrities.

Besides Warren, she is the only one capable day one.

No, Whitmer is capable from day one. Raimondo is capable from day one.

I like Raimando. I think she codes as more authentic than Whitmer. Straight shooter. No BS. People want that now. You could literally win this just by being a decent person and not telling lies every other second.

She's smart, too. Rhodes Scholar, Yale Law. But has that politician way about her where she can either look like a high school principal or a billionaire, depending on the occasion. I think this is the least alienating pick and, aside from Warren, the person who could step up if needed to the Presidency.

So what? Does Biden have to do exactly what Obama did?
What does announcing his pick have to do with Trump?

If it's Harris like everyone thinks it is holding off on an announcement doesn't make any sense. I suspect his pick is more controversial.

I like Raimondo. I just don't understand why she keeps coming up. She's not in the discussion this year. I see her in the future as either a VP or presedential candidate. MAybe as soon as 2024, Not this year.

Just pointing out it’s not unheard of since the last Democrat President did announce ‘later’. Someone’s touchy tonight.

Exactly. All of these women will have a spot in his cabinet. I don't think any of them is the VP pick.

What about someone like Laura Kelly, Gov of Kansas? High approval rating. Seems really neutral in terms of political controversy. Has cross-party appeal.
