Oh yeah! |
I'm sorry I don't know. Was wondering the same. These vaccines are definitely easier to store and distribute so will probably be easier to get to rural populations. |
Better in terms of total efficacy, no. It’s a bit lower. But like the others, the J&J trials showed 100% effective against severe disease and 100% against death. And better in some ways in that it’s just one shot (although they’re doing trials now for two shots to see if a booster improves efficacy) and because it can be kept in a simple refrigerator, instead of the sub zero storage the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require. That makes it logistically MUCH easier to store and administer. I’d get it in a heartbeat. |
Me again. J&J’s trials showed 72% effective in the US. But that dropped in the UK and Latin America where the variants were predominant.
Their “disadvantage” was since their trial was later, the variants were circulating so that may have brought their overall numbers down. Which could be the case with the mRNA vaccines, but they concluded trials earlier and it’s just guessing how much their efficacy is decreased against the variants. Scott Gottlieb said he was assuming 20%. If that’s the case it brings mRNA down to around the same overall number. BUT still very good effectiveness! Esp. when originally the FDA determined a vaccine had to be 60% effective against severe disease. |
"More than 97% of COVID-19 deaths in Israel over the past month were people who had not been vaccinated, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday, as his government tries to increase turnout for the Pfizer Inc shots."
