| Imagine having your ancestors leave Europe due to persecution by Catholics, only to be persecuted by the equivalent of the effing Spanish Inquisition on the SCOTUS, where two of those Catholics don't even belong. |
Ok how about an abortion court |
“No one”. There you have it. The omniscient forum poster has spoken. We should all believe them. |
Yup. Forced birthers. They DGAF about “life”. |
Exactly so. In some circumstances it is justified. Why is that? Because of the pregnant woman’s own life and well being. This decision says she has no such rights. Constitution says otherwise. Roe is good law. |
It is extremely rare, yes. But it’s definitely not “no one.” This woman aborted her healthy 7-month fetus. The mother’s life/health also were not in danger. “ Vial was 22 at the time. She had recently ended her relationship and said she was sure she did not want to continue the pregnancy. "I was already having a tough time in my life in a lot of other ways and it just felt like one more thing I really couldn't bear, or provide for, and I was panicked, I guess," Vial said. Vial found a clinic in New Mexico that told her they would end her pregnancy up until 28 weeks — the beginning of the third trimester. She scrambled, with the help of family, friends and a nonprofit that helps women pay for abortions, to pull together the fee of more than $10,000. "[There were] a lot of people telling me how they felt about my situation without me asking — friends, family, strangers," Vial said. "I mean, you tell someone that you're seven months pregnant and having an abortion, they've got some things to say." "People I thought were my friends made it clear to me that they disapproved," she said. "And that's fine. It wasn't changing my mind."” Source: https://www.npr.org/2019/04/30/718546468/opponents-fight-efforts-to-protect-late-term-abortion-rights |
Note that it wasn’t third trimester But if Republicans want to agree on a ban at the point of viabilty except in cases of threat to mother’s health or where the fetus has issues incompatible with life then I think a consensus could be reached. |
No bans *earlier than viability*. Not just a blanket ban at viability. |
| And viability is exactly what we have today with RvCasey. |
Dp- also this girl found out she was pregnant 2 weeks before her 28 week abortion. And the linked article makes it clear this girl was the anomaly. It’s filled with women who made choices because of healthcare. |
| There will always be slip ups and edge cases but if the law was that it's a life people would be more careful. So it's a chicken or the egg thing. |
You mean like pre-Roe? |
Right; like I said, it’s very rare. But I can’t believe it was even allowed, 4 weeks past the typical viability cut-off, for a healthy fetus. Even if the mom was at risk, you’d typically just deliver a 28-weeker. |
So you admit you can’t defend opposing abortion while supporting the death penalty, so all you can do is dodge the question. |
The NIPT is done at nine weeks, so plenty of people terminate very wanted pregnancies to prevent having a child who suffers from extreme medical issues. |
