Improchoice and do have an issue with people having abortions later in pregnancy for things other than complications with the fetus or the mother's health. The problem becomes once you start restricting things and adding more hoops for people to jump through, doctors are reluctant to provide the care that people need in a timely manner for being sued or prosecuted. That's not good for the woman, the family, the city state or the United States. We need to trust medical professionals and allow people the autonomy to make those decisions. Looking at the facts third trimester abortions are rarely done for fun. So to argue that we don't want women just to wake up one day and be sick of being pregnant and go get an abortion. That's just not something that the facts support is happening. So I don't understand why we're putting so much weight on that I guess
The fact of the matter is that people who are having late term abortions are not doing it for sh*ts and grins. These are people who have bought furniture, painted rooms, dreamed of names etc and then are faced with a horrific choice. No one carries a fetus for 6 months and then decides, nah, I don't want it.
“No one”. There you have it. The omniscient forum poster has spoken. We should all believe them.
It is extremely rare, yes. But it’s definitely not “no one.” This woman aborted her healthy 7-month fetus. The mother’s life/health also were not in danger. “ Vial was 22 at the time. She had recently ended her relationship and said she was sure she did not want to continue the pregnancy. "I was already having a tough time in my life in a lot of other ways and it just felt like one more thing I really couldn't bear, or provide for, and I was panicked, I guess," Vial said. Vial found a clinic in New Mexico that told her they would end her pregnancy up until 28 weeks — the beginning of the third trimester. She scrambled, with the help of family, friends and a nonprofit that helps women pay for abortions, to pull together the fee of more than $10,000. "[There were] a lot of people telling me how they felt about my situation without me asking — friends, family, strangers," Vial said. "I mean, you tell someone that you're seven months pregnant and having an abortion, they've got some things to say." "People I thought were my friends made it clear to me that they disapproved," she said. "And that's fine. It wasn't changing my mind."” Source: https://www.npr.org/2019/04/30/718546468/opponents-fight-efforts-to-protect-late-term-abortion-rights
Note that it wasn’t third trimester But if Republicans want to agree on a ban at the point of viabilty except in cases of threat to mother’s health or where the fetus has issues incompatible with life then I think a consensus could be reached.
No bans *earlier than viability*. Not just a blanket ban at viability.
