You don't understand private DNA kits at all. It's you that does not have an understanding. 23 and me would have nothing to do with this search. Or any other DNA company. |
| Law enforcement can set up fake accounts on the ancestry sites and find relatives that way, then they investigate the family tree and see if they can find a suspect. |
No one said they had anything to do with random DNA checks. The police has historically had to get a warrant but now 23andme is claiming "privacy" issues (much like apple has) and they don't want to give it. But it's not about privacy... As someone noted earlier, it's about optics for business. Sleazy. |
Again, no. Police use public DNA databases. If they need more, as an example a private DNA company, yes, they would need warrant, but that is no different than getting a warrant of any doctor or blood/ tissue lab to do the same thing. That's how they got the BTK killer-his daughter's pap smear that they got a warrant to get. Your DNA is everywhere. It's not more in peril by using a DNA kit. Your privacy isn't upheld because you didn't get your DNA tested, it's still out there. My advice- don't commit crimes. |

How to not get your mom kidnapped:
Step one... don't report negatively on Trump. |
I think you mean the Golden State Killer, who was found b/c of relatives in GEDMatch, which is one of the databases that has granted law enforcement access. |
Both were found through partial DNA matches. |
Actually, the BTK killer was found by the police obtaining a warrant to get his daughter's pap smear, from her college medical facility. Now initially, there was probably a search on GED Match, which is public. A warrant can be obtained for anything. No one has to worry about their private DNA kits because, in the end, your DNA is obtainable by anything- your dr, blood drawn sites, surgery tissue, anything. |
All anyone needs is a sliver of DNA match- public records and social media provide the rest. |
You really think so? Basically he thinks internet sleuths are making a mess and re victimizing the family. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/18/us/nancy-guthrie-kidnapping-theories-true-crime.html?unlocked_article_code=1.NVA.a8DV.8XrHITkCZMvT&smid=nytcore-ios-share |
The family is not the victim. Nancy is the victim. This sheriff may be overlooking the suspects by absolving family as potential suspects |
+1 the sheriff is a bumbling idiot. Can’t trust a word he says. |

DNA worked in those cases because they had direct evidence at the scene.
This glove was found 2 miles away and tested because it looked similar not that it was absolutely the one worn by the perpetrator. The glove could be from anyone. It could be related to the case or not. It could be a gardeners glove or fallen off a truck . No one knows because it wasn’t found at the scene. |
| How has there been no reporting on the suspect's vehicle? This guy didn't get away with Nancy on a bicycle. |
