Because running in Ukrainian politics as a cut-out for the Russian mafia/government isn't a winning strategy? There's a whole subset of the Ukrainian elite who are basically stooges for Putin - part of the same crime syndicate, get intel from Russian intelligence, and want to return Ukraine to Russia.

To be exposed as pro-Russia in Ukraine in 2000 was basically a deal breaker for domestic Ukrainians who were relishing their new found freedoms.

Part of the gambit is that these Ukrainians will claim that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau is really the corrupt ones, apparently. Which I guess would make whoever it was that certified the military aid requirements part of the corrupt swamp?

My guess is that he's been on the Russian payroll for a very long, long time. Going back to when he was at DOJ. And the Russians have receipts.

As I type this, Rudy has tweeted more confessions of bribing/extorting Ukraine and is literally in Kyiv right now continuing the same crimes on behalf of the President that are the subject of the impeachment. And he is doing it out in the open with known Russian assets and Putin allies.
