Inauguration Fashion Thread

Nice write-up in Vox identifying some of the designers and their significance:

Harris wore her signature pearls, a royal purple set by Christopher John Rogers, and shoes by Sergio Hudson. She appears committed to elevating young Black designers during her tenure, much like former first lady Michelle Obama. Last night at the Lincoln Memorial, Harris donned a camel coat by the label Pyer Moss. The brand was founded by designer Kerby Jean-Raymond, the son of Haitian immigrants, who turned his studio into a donation center for personal protective equipment during the pandemic.

I do hope, though, that Harris's fashion choices don't always end up getting the same level of scrutiny that a FLOTUS's would.

Not my cup of tea but they're young and should be having fun experimenting with fashion.

No. They look like pioneer women

+1 That’s not fashion. Quirky yes, but not fashion.

This is 100% on par with the current high fashion trends.

Who cares? It’s 100% ugly. So defensive!

Sorry - she looks like she stepped off of the Wizard of Oz set.

Or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I don’t think this is a good look, personally.

If it weren’t for this outfit she would look younger.

I wonder if the pearls are for Harris

To be fair, Laura Bush’s MIL is known for wearing pearls, so could be a family thing.

I do think that even for conservative women there is a sense of excitement and solidarity over the first woman VP.

Or she's wearing pearls because pearls are classic?

Oh no! Are you worried you can't wear your pearls anymore because now people are going to think you're a Democrat?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

You're quoting me and I AM a democrat, dumbass. I'm just tired of people on here trying to read something into the most trivial things. EVERYONE wears pearls, especially people of her generation.

+100

Imagine Hillary in Nancy’s dress and coat.

Jill has a very elegant but approachable style...not ice queen at all.
I loved this purple coat....jonathan cohen studio makes it.

OMG she is beautiful. Total girl crush.

I was trying to express to my kids the wonder of J Lo. I cried during her song.

I thought she was so cheesy. So 2008. It was a weird choice...a celebrity who made it about her, rather than about the solemn occasion that it was. So flashy and tacky.

Loved Garth Brooks. Loved Biden's speech.

FP Obama didn’t seem to like like JLo’s performance.
+1. I thought everything was flawless except Garth brooks’ pants were inappropriate and trying to make it about himself, and j lo’s performance was horrific
and embarrassing.

She looked like one of the orange skin family. Other that that, I liked when she said a few words in Spanish.

I think it would be better without the ruffle bow.

How many runaway shows have you been to? I'm honestly curious.

These remind me of Christian Siriano FW2020.

You do realize that just because a fashion designer came up with something and paraded it down the runway, doesn’t mean that creation is attractive or flattering, right? We get that you fancy yourself in the know about all things fashion, but plenty of others here are as well. And we think those particular creations would be right at home on the prairie.

Have you ever thought that they don't give a s*** if you find them attractive? They are Californian and Brooklynite with a different style esthetic. They like Batsheva Hay's designs and she represents their idea of pretty. The step-daughter is at Parsons.

Do you realize we’re not actually talking to these people? Or do you think JLo is also going to take the advice of DCUM? Your rapid defense here is so bizarre.

I loves Jill Biden's outfit. It was wonderful and festive and she looked so pretty.
I loved J-Lo's outfit. It was beautiful, feminine and strong.
Liked Michelle Obama's outfit too. It was smart and understated.

I love Kamala Harris but I did not like her outfit. It was too utilitarian.
I am a big fan of Lady Gaga but did not like her the bottom part of her outfit too much but hey she is Lady Gaga. I loved her makeup.

Among the youngsters - I loved Kamala Harris's step-daughters dress so much. So young, festive, unique and fashionable.
I loved the dress of the youth poet laureate and her make-up. I think she looked fiery and strong.

My top 4 outfits -
1) Kamala Harris's Step Daughter
2) Jill Biden
3) J-Lo
4) Michelle Obama

You don't get it; it's not about talking to them. I'm challenging your idea that fashion's role is to make one conventionally attractive to simpletons. Fashion is an extension of one's personality - vulgar, boring, quirky, conservative etc. That's why we have Comme des Garçons and also Kardashian's line. These women were guests and not applying for public positions.

And for those asking about HRC, here's a pic:

LOVE her hair. And that she is wearing what she feel comfortable in - her pant suit, her shoes, her coat! Lovely, warm and cosy!
