Not this game, but my DD’s team played them today and I was shocked at how rough they were. One of their strategies seems to be checking towards the head. There was a whistle against them every 30 seconds. For the record, I have no problem with aggressive play. I do have a problem with unsportsmanlike play, however.

It was a 27 team with a couple of 2026 girls playing down…

Today, at the Winter 8, the ‘28 YJMA team in the B bracket had 10 yellow cards in the first half. TEN! For swinging at heads, shoving the opposing team’s players to the ground, and generally dangerous play. YJMA was playing the Stars ‘28 team in the championship game. The YJMA girls were out of control and their play barely resembled legal girls’ youth level lacrosse.

The YJMA coach was encouraging them, screaming at the refs and accused the refs (at the top of her lungs) of “being paid $100 for every yellow card” they gave the YJ team. The YJ coach went on the field mid-game and demanded her team stop playing, pulled them out of the game, forfeiting it. The YJMA ‘28 entire exhibition was the most out of control, embarrassing, unsportsmanlike behavior I have ever witnessed by a coach and her team in girls’ youth lacrosse.

If my daughter were playing for YJMA I would immediately find a different club. The ‘28 coach’s tantrum, the encouragement of young girls to violent, illegal play, and the overall demonstration of those representing YJMA was flat out disgusting and appalling. I recommend avoiding this club at all costs!

Goodness, I was just made aware of this unfortunate forum today. As a volunteer coach and parent, this makes me sad to see so much hate and vitriol in youth sports. Parents…if you are not happy, stop complaining and make a positive impact to your local rec group.

This isn’t about rec sports. This is about parents paying 2/3k for club sports. You obviously haven’t read the majority of posts on this forum. And for you make the comment on this specific thread shows your incompetence to understand the issue at hand.

I feel that I cannot condemn you too much, because I too am responding to this silliness🤣…but more out of total shock that it exists!!!

However, I do hope that you find some positive outlets to focus your time and energy. Perhaps spending more time with your family and concentrating on the good that surrounds your life. Irregardless of your situation in life, volunteering and focusing on someone outside of yourself is always a positive way to find peace and happiness. Good luck!

One more thing….do not discount rec and HS sports…you cannot pay your way to college sports. If your kid is talented…they will be sought out…no matter what field they play on!!!

Angry dude…put down the Kool-Aid….you are in too deep!! Use your real name…be a man!!!

You are partly correct - the hate and vitriol coming out of the YJMA coach at the St James tournament yesterday was frightening and upsetting to many people watching snd young girls playing. For that behavior to exist in youth sports is awful. Coach should be banned from working with kids.

Then get off the forum. That simple. People come here to post to share information and provide guidance. Appreciate your opinion but you calling out people that have skin in the game and want to ensure other parents are informed doesn’t help. As you said , you have no engaged with positing. What is your motive and what is your name?

Spend a little more time encouraging wall ball and sprints, that will be more productive.

I hope it wasn’t a case of the refs not knowing what the difference between modified and full checking? It’s bothersome to play in a tourney with refs that don’t let the girls play. This happens once you play outside of hotbed areas.
I only say this because once my DD transitioned from travel to club in 6th grade, one of the first things her coach(a former d1 player and now D1 coach) worked on was how to be defensive within the lines. She taught them how to play defensively in preparation for teams such as the LI clubs.

To be clear YJMA 26s has 5 27 players on it. All the kids were played down were age eligible.
