2021 VA Governors race

Anonymous
I don’t think the VA Governor’s election needs to be a proxy for the 2020 Presidential election all over again. McAuliffe is a corrupt wheeler-dealer with no principles who’ll say anything to the traditional Democratic voting blocs to get elected. If people fall for this rich hypocrite from McLean again, shame on them. He won’t suffer one bit as he destroys the quality of life in VA for the middle class.

The Republicans have stood behind violent attacks on our Capitol aimed at preventing Congress from doing their work. The Republicans have stood behind lies and conspiracy theories claiming the election was filled with fraud despite no evidence of such fraud. Then they want to change laws based on those lies! Of course, it’s a Virginia issue if you prefer facts , truth, and democracy over an authoritarian cult.

Youngkin has done nothing to suggest he'd undermine democracy. Sensible voter registration laws should find broad support.

But in your world the failure to say exactly what you want affirmed, and always on your terms, is disqualifying.

Casting aspersions on the legitimacy of the election and refusing to denounce an attempted coup = undermining democracy

You need to go back and re-examine the Democrats and their statements from 2016 onward and see if you are still able to support them as well.

I have. There's no both siding this

So comparing the actions of 1000 random supporters with the actions of actual democratic leaders who: refused to attend the inauguration, called immediately for impeachment (yes, that was an attempt to overthrow a legitimate election), called for violence against cabinet members and WH officials, called for “resistance” by public employees paid with our tax dollars, legal harassment of Trump family members and administration officials and a constant drumbeat of interviews questioning Trump’s election, loyalty to the country, etc. are not comparable. The damage done to our democracy by Democratic Party leaders was MUCH more damaging. And was underlying the rage of January 6th.

It is insane that you believe that drivel. But lookie there, you just justified an attempted coup.

Still waiting for any Republican in power (besides Cheney) to denounce 1/6 and state the election was legit. Still waiting.

I've seen this in the Northeast, with around 20xc per kilowatt hour, almost double a normal state.

There’s a climate crisis. Try using less energy if you can’t afford it. Or buy a smaller house.

I fully support voter IDs and proper registration of absentee and mail in ballots. I have to show ID to board a plane, to go to the doctors, to cash a check...why would I hesitate to do so to vote as an American?

Me too! Youngkin FTW.

Because none of those are a constitutional right and because we had safe and secure elections right up until the 2000s without IDs. But whatever. Fine. No one is really arguing about voter ID anyway--it's a straw man. The real issues are other restrictive voting laws designed to make it harder. ID is just an easy one to prop up so you all focus on that

The Democrats in Fairfax are ruining FCPS, a once-great school system. Sorry, but I’m breaking ranks and voting mostly for Republicans in local and state elections until it’s clear that academics and not loony social justice initiatives are the priority again. I have no faith in the likes of McAuliffe to stop the insanity and candidates like Sean Perryman would make things even worse.

great, so yet again republicans learn nothing and they will double down on THEIR crazy because they will claim that is what the people want. Roe could get overturned and this country will slip further and further into authoritarianism, but what do you care? They stuck it to those teachers, boy.

I cannot with any of this.

DP. I am pro-choice but at this point my kids’ education is what has the most impact on my day to day life if I had to rank my issues.

I don’t think the Va Governor race will impact whether I live in a democracy.

of course it does. because if republicans win back VA, they see it as a win for their way of doing things and will continue to push their bigoted and authoritarian crap in all states and into the 2022 and 2024 elections. they will keep doubling down on the big lie and will probably overturn the next election if given the chance.

you think it doesn't matter, but you bet your behind it does

which is why we absolutely cannot reward this party with our votes just because things didn't go great this year in local schools
