As a south Asian American, I really enjoyed this show. Akshaky’s hair really bothered me though, I’m not sure what exactly he was trying to do. I know a girl exactly like Aparna, we are not friends but I think a lot of her annoying habits stem from insecurity. The counselor guy seemed really nice but sadly his qualities won’t really be valued as much in South Asian culture. The bubbly Guyanese girl was super cute, I really hope she finds a good dude. Sima auntie is a funny lady, I enjoyed watching her.
Not sure why everyone is commenting on appearances though, it’s common for south asians to have larger eyes, noses and lips; why are those features being disparaged as unattractive. Seems racist. |
In the looks department, the main characters were certainly less than average. Exception was the Guyanese girl. The sikhni mom was also cute although out of shape. |
No, there were multiple disparaging comments about the beautiful model girl's aqualine nose, which is common in South Asians, especially those from the north. |
| How good of a matchmaker could Sima possibly be if literally every person featured remained single? Please give me $5,000 to pick a match for you no better than you'd find for free on Bumble. |
I agree w/ your assessment. Sima Auntie is joyous 💕 I agree that the guidance counselor will have a difficult time finding an Indian wife for the reasons you mentioned. I see him with a super quirky white girl who likes dungeon & dragons. He will find his match, but he needs to broaden his parameters. I loved Nadia & her energy, but I was disappointed the show moved on & stopped airing scenes of her. I’m waiting for a Season 2! Lovely show! |
Yeah, what's her percentage of successfully matching people who marry? None of the people on the show married, which I find odd considering that's her job. |
The hostess of this did such a fantastic job! Thanks for sharing. |
She was GC of an insurance company for 6 months and hasn't worked there since Oct 2019. She clearly hates the work, and hasn't managed to stay at any job longer than a bit over 2 yrs. She's clearly smart but not very successful, which isn't surprising given her poor people skills and complete lack of ability to look at herself and see where there might be issues. |
Yeah, I was really surprised she talked about hating being a lawyer, so basically now no one will hire her to be a lawyer. Smart. |
Yeah I’m the pp who noticed that people commented a lot on looks, but most of the cast seemed decent looking to me with some cute folks as well. But then again I’m South Asian, and I think the diversity and beauty of fellow south Asians is pretty cool. Nothing wrong with having bigger features, especially large eyes which most South Asians have, I personally find them more attractive. And the model had a very cute nose, I don’t know why she was being dumped on, she was a very pretty girl. |
| When I watch season 2, I will have an Indian buffet in my house. |
| Why does she go by Sima Auntie and not Auntie Sima? |
It’s an Indian thing to call people [first name] Auntie or Uncle. We don’t do it the reverse way. |
| I loved the show at first but hated how you got invested in people- and then never saw them again. Why introduce so many characters if you’re not going to follow up with them? The Shekar call in the car is just one example- it’s really bad storytelling not to follow up on loose threads. |
Large eyes are pretty, large noses definitely not |
