I agree they were slow to get on the case. But it turns out there are a lot of inconsistencies and little corroboration. Reputable journalists (not Fox) aren't going to go into attack mode over something like this. Nevertheless:

- NY Times called on the DNC to investigate
- MSNBC invited her on their show but she declined
- NPR has done several pieces on her, despite doing its own in-depth investigation and finding no confirmation
- NY Times and the Washington Post investigated and said there were many inconsistencies plus lack of corroboration
- More I'm sure I'm missing

Let the DNC investigate. I, too, doubt they'll find much. This is the DNC after all. But more importantly, so far there doesn't seem much to find. I'm open to changing my mind, but I'll need more than what we have so far.

Totally agree. But The New York Times editorial board calling for the DNC to do an investigation is the dumbest idea ever. No one will actually think that that is a real investigation.

Agree about the DNC.

Apparently The NY Times did its own investigation and concluded there was no there there, at least yet. I’d love to know the details of their investigation.

the story's changed again

https://apnews.com/aec7beb03e9e0e0e6e3c58111293e0ea

Tara Reade, the former Senate staffer who alleges Joe Biden sexually assaulted her 27 years ago, says she filed a limited report with a congressional personnel office that did not explicitly accuse him of sexual assault or harassment.

“I remember talking about him wanting me to serve drinks because he liked my legs and thought I was pretty and it made me uncomfortable,” Reade said in an interview Friday with The Associated Press. “I know that I was too scared to write about the sexual assault.”

Reade said she described her issues with Biden but “the main word I used — and I know I didn’t use sexual harassment — I used ‘uncomfortable.’ And I remember ‘retaliation.’”

Reade described the report after the AP discovered additional transcripts and notes from its interviews with Reade last year in which she says she “chickened out” after going to the Senate personnel office. The AP interviewed Reade in 2019 after she accused Biden of uncomfortable and inappropriate touching. She did not raise allegations of sexual assault against Biden until this year, around the time he became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.

The existence of the Senate report has become a key element of the accusations against Biden, which he has flatly denied. Reade says she doesn’t have a copy of the report, and Biden said Friday that he is not aware that any complaint against him exists. He asked the Senate and the National Archives to search their records to try to locate a complaint from Reade.

Something’s definitely up. Someone found something.

Indeed. It is called the truth, which is that Biden didn't do anything sexually wrong. The story has totally fallen apart. I guess we'll start hearing about Hunter again.

I wouldn’t go that far. You actually have no idea what he did.

I'm not sure she's capable of telling the truth. It may have happened, it may not have. But Tara Reade is her own worst public relations nightmare. She will bury the story just because she can't tell the truth. I expect that one week, two tops and her 15 minutes of fame will be over, she'll fade into the background and this story will be dropped, mostly because she has obfuscated it beyond any hope of acknowledgment.

Hard to tell of Reade does either since her story changes multiple times per day.

So, I hope all the right wing zealots will give Trump's accusers the same platform and opportunity to make their cases.

Neither does she.

You don't know that. The PP could have been present.

If they actually cared about women or sexual violence they sure would.

Their silence will say it all.

A lot of people don't seem to realize that it is very common for people who have experienced trauma to not share all the details at once. It is also very common for them to remember some details vividly and other details are very hazy. People who experience trauma don't always act in the way that you might expect. There is a lot of shame and confusion and guilt and self doubt and humiliation and that impacts what someone says and does and what they share when and to whom. People also may not remember details that weren't important as when the brain is in trauma mode, it ignores certain things to focus on the threat. Sensory experiences are often clearer than other details. Timelines are often confused and changing. Some details are withheld because the person doesn't want to talk about that aspect.

Disclosure and recall are often impacted by the traumatic experience. In any case - this one or any case where someone discloses sexual violence, you can't conclude it didn't happen because s/he didn't immediately give a full detailed account that never changed in any way.

If I had been raped by someone I had greatly admired on a professional level, I would be in a state of shock and disbelief for a long time. It shatters your world.

On one level you want to scream out in rage to the world, but on another level you want to pretend it didn’t happen just so you can try to get on with your life.

He waited all this time to address her charges because his staffers were combing through his records at the University of Delaware. The man is as guilty as hell.

Good news for Hill.

Immediately??? It has been DECADES.

And she started talking more than a month ago. That should have been enough time to get your story straight.

But when you aren't telling the truth it is hard to keep the details straight.
