We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.” - The Duke and Duchess of Sussex

I’m happy for them. There is more to life than glitz and paparazzi.

I believe this means *MORE* paparazzi. The royals have an agreement with the british press to only publish official photos. the tabloids have already started publishing pics of meghan leaving some meetings today.

but thats what she wants.

The press are sitting on A LOT OF MM material from her past. Buckle Up! I would not want to mess with the Queen.

Yup this is what I suspect as well. It's pretty evident that MM has some skeletons in her closet (as we all do) that the Royal Family graciously hid from the public for their and MM's benefit. She must have known they'd retaliate by publishing it so the next few weeks should be entertaining!

Good for them. I'm glad they feel secure enough to establish their own lives for themselves rather than being bound to outdated norms. If nothing else, given the open racism of the British press, I think it would be good for Archie to be shielded from it a bit more as he grows up.

Harry is a prince. He's outdated. And he wants to have it both ways.

They keep saying how close the brothers are. Even if they're not as close as they were before, I didn't expect this behavior from Harry.

Pretty much this. You are either in that balcony - or you are not.

And agree that the only person taking a risk here is Meghan, hope she realizes it. If not, just ask fergie

Except people still has a soft spot for Fergie because of Eugenie and Beatrice. Meghan is burning all her bridges by disrespecting the Queen. Harry will be forgiven because people loved Diana and remember him as a little boy.

I think things are changing re ‘the balcony’ and its figurative importance. It used to be the only place to get a good look at the family.

The Cambridge’s just did their walk for Kate’s birthday which they do every year. A generous 10 people showed up.

For Meghan and Harry’s Canada House appearance with one days notice (2 days after birthday walk) - crowds.

Why are you even comparing the two? It wasn't Kate's "birthday walk" as in an official event. She has friends stay with them the weekend of her bday and they go to church together. It's not an official event.

Neither was Canada House...and yet...

OMG. Canada House IS IN DOWNTOWN LONDON IN ONE OF THE BUSIEST INTERSECTIONS. Kate is going to church in quiet country village.

I see you didn’t post photos of the Canada House staff REQUIRED to hold flags outside the entrance to make it look like there were crowds? So lame. Rent a crowds from NN’s PR firm Sunshine Sachs — you know, the firm which represented Harvey Weinstein?

I guess you (and the rest of the Royal family) didn’t listen to him in South Africa.

He’s endured three years of Meghan being abused DAILY by the British starting with this first piece in 2016.

The Firm has had a good six months to come up with a solution since South Africa and done nothing.

So Harry is.

Nope, I didn’t post the flags but there was a separate crowd over there too.

Also guess what - if Harry and Meghan has been doing that walk you wouldn’t have been able to see even the grass.

Same thing happened at Windsor Castle with their wedding versus Eugenie’s a year later.

She knew what she was getting herself into. She couldn’t handle the fact that there are much bigger fish in that pond. You sign on the dotted line and you deliver - Kate, Duchess of Cambridge.

With all of the resources at each of their disposal, there is no reason the brothers can't stay close despite not being neighbors.

As for having it both ways, stepping back and working to become financially independent seems like the opposite of having it both ways.

Diana left him millions of dollars. He’s already financially independent. Cut him off.

Those of you who think this is all Meghan's doing must think Harry's a pretty weak, pathetic person.

I thought she didn’t leave as much as people thought. She didn’t have any money other than her divorce settlement.

Did you see Prince Charles walk Meghan down he aisle at her wedding? And the Queen take Meghan on one of her first royal engagements? And see photos of the Queen and Prince Phillip Meeting Archie? And the Queen saying in her Christmas speech how wonderful it was to have Archie born?

Your selective choice of media to fit your narrative is appalling. The Royal Family has bent over backwards to welcome Meghan. Meghan not a victim.
