If you seek further diversity, you can move to another neighborhood. |
I think the Board of Education is moving towards redefining the neighborhood boundaries so all schools can closer represent the mix of ethnicities and income that is Montgomery County. The practices of red lining and segregation have been outlawed for decades. If families at Churchill don't like the changes, then they can opt for a private school or move elsewhere. |
The BoE did no such thing. Seriously, why do you keep posting this? |
This is total drivel. You don't know what you're talking about. The BOE has done no such thing. |
The county is not 50% FARMs. Last year, 27% of high school students received FARMs. Overall, it's 34%. Nor is Churchill "a little light on black and Hispanics". 21% of the high school population is black, 29% is Hispanic - compared to 9% black and 8% black at Churchill. Also, minorities aren't fungible. |
This poster's ignorance is showing again--it's based on where you live. If you don't find that a particular school has the exact mix of people whom you think should be there, go to another one. Pigs will fly before kids from Wheaton are bused to Churchill. |
PP is out of touch as to why a boundary study has been approved by the BOE for the entire county. The resistance to change and lack of appreciation for diversity is why Churchill has a national distinction as being the "N Word Pass School". Not something to be proud of. Not something the current BOE will ignore. |
The BoE has NOT approved a boundary study for the entire county. Here are the current boundary studies in MCPS: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/planning/UpcountyHSBoundaryStudy.aspx https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/planning/DownCountyESBoundaryStudy.aspx The county-wide study is an in-depth review and analysis of how existing school and cluster boundaries support or hinder the effective use of school facilities in MCPS. It may be a study OF BOUNDARIES, but it is not a boundary study. |
The wealthy segregationists simply wish to maintain their advantages and privilege at everyone else's expense. The BOE is on this and things are finally changing for the better. |
+1 Exactly. Well said. |
+1. Not going to happen. |

Apparently, Churchill and Hoover created some sort of discussion circles that meet for half day over at Hoover (Churchill kids and faculty go over to Hoover for some sort of retreat, and maybe some Hoover kids join in?)
Anyone have any information about these? I have minority kids at both schools. One heard a rumor of this but wasn't invited and doesn't know how to get invited. Others hadn't heard of it, at all. |

Would the Wheaton kids want to be bussed to Churchill? |
You are absolutely correct on that part. So please stop implying any current zoning practice being similar or related to "segregation and red lining". They are perfectly legal and normal. Making these false implications will only make one thing clear: you do not have a good argument therefore you have to resort to these tactics. |
