So many posters, in page after page, dedicated to validating and normalizing Barr’s racism (not to mention her nasty conspiracy theories). #MAGA

Free speech means Roseanne won’t be thrown in jail for her comments. It does NOT mean she shouldn’t face any consequences. |
|
"Comparing a black person to an ape is what I call 'sh!t-your-pants racism.' Everyone can smell it, everyone can see it, and nobody wants to help you clean it up."
Trevor Noah on Roseanne’s racist tweets: on.cc.com/2J2OS0N |
Who? |
I don’t understand how this became a foreign concept. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech... There aren’t any laws limiting protected speech, and the feds haven’t rushed in to haul her off to jail. She is enjoying the benefits of free speech. |
Whether or not she’s fired is up to her employer. The endless tallying and whataboutism and hypocrisy from the right is absurd. You hold no standards unless the person isn’t a member of your tribe. There’s no low too low for those who are a member of your tribe - you’ll explain anything away. |
| Fired from what? Is t she a blogger? |
No response from anyone? |
For those who didn't click on the link (which, btw, goes to an article from 2013):
This also appears to have been a live show. So, yes, fire the kid. Damn, conservatives have completely lost it these days. |
| She keeps digging the hole deeper. She needs to just shut her mouth/stop tweeting. |
|
Gotta love that liberal double standard.

Precisely. No liberal outrage |
Kimmel has used blackface in his comedy skits. Blatant sexual skits. All ok |
She's a journalist/commentator with the Root. So yes, she has a job. If her employer deems her too offensive, her employer can fire her. Just like ABC, Rosanne Barr's employer, fired Barr. Everyone is entitled to free speech - not being locked up or jailed or killed for expressing your beliefs. There are still consequences, though. Using racial epithets on Twitter rants if you are a TV personality on a "family friendly" channel, may get you fired. |
It appears that no amount of explaining will get this point through to some. Roseanne's transgression was not that her tweet was offensive, but that it was racist. You can be offensive and not be racist. The Root reporter's tweet was, in my opinion, offensive. But, was it racist? I don't know the answer to that, but I would be interested to hear what our posters of color think about it. It is definitely not a clear cut case as it was with Roseanne. |
