Placement is based on your child's educational needs. It is not a trophy that you win.[/quote]

So, true, but so many parents see AAP as some sort of reward for success in school, not as a support system for a child's educational needs. Some parents will even announce their child's test scores at the bus stop!

I am starting my daughters paperwork for next year. She got a GBRS of 16 but she doesnt seem to make the cutoff requirement on the WISC... scored FSIQ 126 but VCI is 115 and PRI 116.

will the GBRS help her case in your opinion?

Im wondering if I should even turn in the paperwork or if i should just try the WISC again in another year (she is in pvt school)

115 and 116 are not very high, and these are the 2 areas of the WISC that the cmte looks at. I would do another test - the CogAT, perhaps, in the fall.

When you say starting for next year, you mean for fall of 2013? If so, and you are a county resident, you are too late. If you mean getting a jump on applications for 2014, how do you have the gbrs already?

hope we can get result next Monday

I wouldn't count on the GBRS helping much if you're coming from private school. Even though it may be inconsistent in FCPS, it's probably still considered more objective. GL

+1. Do you have other test results? GMU offers NNAT/CogAT twice a year, $150 for both, that worth a try. If your daughter can't make any of the cutoff of the tests (130), it will be tough, since GBRS from private school might not hold that much weight to the committee without proper test scores. My DC is also from private school with GBRS 16, but 142 NNAT/138 CoGAT, eligible first try.

Are the results coming in next week? I thought they were sending them out on 6/28.

no I mean I want to meet the AAP deadline of Nov 2013. So she can enroll for the sept 2014 school year. I have the GBRS already because I got her teachers to fill out the form. DD is coming from a private school. I will turn that in for the Nov deadling. I just prepared everything ahead of time.

Isnt the Wisc more detailed? I would think that if she didnt score that high on the Wisc, chances are she would not score too high on cognat/NNAT? or am i wrong in making that assumption?
It's a shame, she did so well on GBRS, I would hate for her not to get in, but I suppose that program is just not for her.

My understanding is, in general, private school GBRS's are inflated. It would be interesting to look at a histogram of the scores from FCPS vs a private. My understanding is some privates routinely give 16's. By comparison, 16 is very rare in public schools.
