None of the posts quoted above make this claim. Why are you so desperate to discredit concerns from Einstein parents? Why don't you actually quote the posts you disagree with instead of just attacking Einstein parents with vague insults? What is your actual problem? |
Einstein did offer both AP and IB science courses for years. But there weren't enough students to justify keeping both sets of courses, so they kept IB science because they are required to as an IB school. |
|
Putting this here again since the anti-Einstein poster is clearly trying to distract from it.
Einstein serves a higher needs population than BCC or Whitman. It has larger percentages of students with IEPs, EMLs and students that receive FARMS. Yet it receives no extra funding to meet the needs of the FARMS students, even though MCPS gets extra funding from the state for every FARMS student. Of course, they are stretched thin. If you want to constantly shriek that you are advancing equity, then actually try to advance equity. Don't make zero effort and then talk down to and shut down families and staff that complain. |
If you actually cared about equity you’d want the school resources allocated to help with meeting the needs of your school’s higher needs population and would say that it’s satisfactory that the better resourced high achieving students should manage with IB physics or should take advantage of the myriad other special programs your students can also access so they can take AP Physics. It’s not “equity” to run two different advanced physics courses with very small enrollment numbers when the school budget is finite and you acknowledge you have lots of high needs community members who are definitely not taking AP physics. You are weaponizing equity to get yours. |
No, the only engineering program available to Einstein and Northwood and Blair students will be BCC. Kids who attend magnets have to take magnet classes + graduation requirements. Their options for electives will be extremely limited. This system isn't like the DCC where students can choose a school and explore courses according to their interests. It's much more restrictive. |
Yeah, equity isn't free. If you take the money from the state that is for FARMS students and put it in rich schools, you won't be able to offer equitable opportunities. That's how MCPS is designed. |
No, a school should not have fewer opportunities than other schools because it's school population is high needs. You are twisting the notion of equity to advocate for racial disparities in academic opportunities. You think you sound like you are championing the needs of kids that are Black, Brown, or whose families have lower incomes, but that is because you are a disgusting racist who can't imagine that there are many, many smart kids in these groups who deserve the same opportunities as kids with different complexions. |
I recently learned that IB exams are offered in multiple languages but AP exams are only offered in English. That can make IB more beneficial for EML students. |
I googled the Blair magnet and it appeared several engineering courses were part of the specific program, not electives. I’m not personally familiar with it, but I imagine a kid interested in applying to college engineering programs would be more than prepared coming from the Blair magnet and would be at no disadvantage compared to a kid who did the engineering program at bcc. |
Oh okay done, IB for EML. No need to ask them what they prefer, they don't even speak English so what's the point amirite? |
Doesn't sound like you know much of anything so why are you posting about things you know nothing about? Oh, do you work for CO? |
I said literally nothing about race but you made your response all about race because you are coming at this with all kinds of assumptions and bias. The truth is that the school has to meet the needs of its population the best it can. Just as kids in large families get less individual parental attention compared to only children in most cases, the make up of the group will determine how triage is handled. Nothing is ever completely fair or even and to have that goal is a fool’s errand. |
I get that you are a greedy POS who loves that the state money for FARMS doesn't actually go towards serving FARMS students. More money for the White kids, gotta keep Whitman's US news ranking up. |
Seek help. |
I am seeking help. I want MCPS to use the state money it gets for FARMS kids on FARMS kids. I want them to help FARMS kids with the money they receive for them. Why aren't you seeking to help these kids instead of bashing parents who want equal educational opportunities for their kids? |
