MCPS must think we are idiots if they think they can convince us they are unrelated. Of course they are related. They obviously know this because they are proposing placing programs based on existing assets, like the availability of advanced coursework. The are intentionally NOT placing advanced academic programs at schools that don't currently have a lot of advanced academic classes. If they did that instead, they would be increasing equity, but equity is not their goal. |
The Einstein families posting on this Board looking for higher-level APs would do well to advocate for retiring in the local IB program there, which would clear the way to have more AP classes in lieu of IB classes. |
| I have to wonder how much of this is driven by wanting to be able to increase the US news rankings for Whitman and BCC which are numbers 2 and 20 respectively in this year's rankings. That number 1 spot is calling to Taylor. |
Plenty of schools have IB programs and AP classes. Richard Montgomery and BCC do just fine. |
| The anti-Einstein contingent here is really desperate. |
They do, but Einstein is telling families there are not enough students to fill the AP courses. Also the demographics of those 3 schools are very different. |
RM and B-CC have enough high achieving kids to support both programs. Einstein does not. So I agree with PP: If Regional IB gets stood up, Einstein would be wise to go all in with AP. |
I'd say exactly the opposite - the Einstein families are desperate. Not happy with either the boundary or program studies with a separate thread dedicated to how worried families are about the future of Einstein. |
but....the Einstein posts are dominated by one person. And she often colors the truth. So who knows what Einstein parents actually are thinking. |
How can they possibly know this if they don't offer the courses in the first place? And yes, Einstein serves a higher needs population than BCC or Whitman. It has larger percentages of students with IEPs, EMLs and students that receive FARMS. Yet it receives no extra funding to meet the needs of the FARMS students, even though MCPS gets extra funding from the state for every FARMS student. Of course, they are stretched thin. If you want to constantly shriek that you are advancing equity, then actually try to advance equity. Don't make zero effort and then talk down to and shut down families and staff that complain. |
What is the truth, in your opinion? Btw there are at least 2 of us posting here today, and based on my child's ES PTA meetings there are many, many of us that feel the same way. |
RM has enough kids because they intentionally placed the IB magnet there instead of at richer schools. Now, MCPS wants to place new academic magnets at the richest schools in Region 1. |
| Honest question - do you think equity comes for free? Do you really think you can choose the absolute cheapest possible option and increase equity instead in making things more inequitable? |
The truth is different from "Einstein doesn't offer enough math classes to allow students to graduate." That one poster is abundantly obvious because she repeats the same points obsessively. So who knows if she is sock-puppeting, but she's definitely made me question anything posted on this board about Einstein. |
That wasn't me. But you can look up the course offerings yourself by googling Einstein MCPS course bulletin if you don't believe me. |
