I am confused by why he is still in student housing and expecting protection from the university since he graduated in December. Do colleges/universities usually all alumnae to continue to live in campus housing after graduation? I always thought you had to move out. Is his wife a current student?

This seems to be a side issue. Graduate student housing may very well require year long leases. Married students with children (or children about to be born) may be allowed certain accommodations. You never know what policies a university may have.

The Trump administration has scrambled to justify Khalil’s detention – but has yet to say explicitly what, if anything, Khalil has been charged with. First, the Department of Homeland Security referred Zeteo to the White House, which did not respond to a request for comment. Later, DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin confirmed in a statement that ICE detained Khalil “in support of President Trump’s executive orders prohibiting anti-Semitism.” Without providing evidence, McLaughlin claimed Khalil “led activities aligned to Hamas.”

So the charge if any seems to be "anti-Semitism" (however that is being defined, I don't know) -- that is clearly a freedom of speech issue.

"led activities 'aligned to' Hamas?" that is not a charge. That is not specific. You cannot round people up for such vague reasons. Well you can but... it isn't right.

I am not a fan of the Dems these days but your post seems to me to maybe be the pendulum swinging back (combined with stock market losses since we live in the US).

MAGA: "Oh we aren't anti-immigrant, we just want to get rid of the violent criminals who've come in to our country"

*ICE starts deporting quiet, humble, hard working, non-violent maids, kitchen staff, landscapers, construction workers - yet isn't doing such a great job on the violent ones*

MAGA: "uhh well if you've crossed the border illegally then you're the worst kind of criminal and you need to go"

*ICE starts deporting people who LEGALLY entered the country, with visas, with green cards, with asylum protections, and so on*

MAGA: "uhhh well they must have done something seriously wrong, they must be violent Hamas terrorists or Venezuelan cat eaters or something"

More and more backpedaling, more and more unhinged rationalizing happening...

I wonder how ICE even got Khalil name and address? I am Jewish so please don't throw the "you are antisemitic" label on me but while there are plenty of left leaning Jews (yes, most of us likely descents of Jews who had the luxury of arriving in the US post 1930s - and as an aside my own ancestors came here bc of Ukrainian pogroms) BUT the Jewish conservative lobby is real and honestly pretty scary (I know one IRL). Anyone who want to call me a "troll": no I am not. Also did you know there is 99% of processed relgious views from all faiths are the same? So what exactly are you fighting?

LOL.

Seriously- this guy was a few steps away from driving a stolen Uber into Times Square.

He is getting off easy. Send him back to wherever and let IDF or one of our drones deal with him.

Left is getting worked up about an agitator looking for a fight - he will get it; just out of US.

No he hasn't. This judge has no jurisdiction over Khalil.

LOL, did you go to the Trump University Law School?

Jesse Furman from the Southern District of New York doesn't have jurisdiction to hear a habeas petition of someone being held in Louisiana.

The filing was made when he was still in the NJ area. He was kidnapped by the government and shipped off to a GOP friendly circuit court jurisdiction.

Well, he is actively campaigning for and supporting people who engage in kidnapping (as well as torture and murder) so he probably understands the logistics of kidnapping better than most might. At least he’s got that going for him.

I actually don’t support this to be clear but I think the hysterics about “kidnapping” here are ridiculous. Khalil knows what actual kidnapping is — he has openly supported it. This is not kidnapping and the misuse of the phrase is appalling.

Your logic is appalling

This is kidnapping and your side is trying to brush it under the carpet so anyone else who might do something Trump won't like doesn't get their wind up and decide to band together.

Coz that is a lot of people he has targeted.

I literally wrote “I actually don’t support this to be clear” in my post. Also, I voted for Harris.

But facts and grounding in reality have never been the provenance of the pro-Palestine movement. So your inability to read doesn’t surprise me.

I know what you wrote.

It's not legal
And it's a dictator move

You can't just take people like this in country. Full stop

Well, it does seem to be something Khalil is quite in support of himself. But I agree that the US should have higher standards than Hamas, even if Khalil himself is a strong supporter of kidnapping innocents, including babies.

That having been said, this isn’t kidnapping and it’s offensive to describe it as such.

Armed officers physically removed him from his residence without legal cause to do so. How do you define it otherwise?

Ask the Hamas supporters who are big fans of kidnapping.

Between June and November 2023, Khalil worked as a political affairs officer with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in New York.[1] He later became actively involved in pro-Palestinian activism, particularly on Columbia University’s campus.[7]

He was working with the pro Hamas unrwa org, deport him back to syria

Wouldn’t it be more informative to ask the Russian soldiers who trained and armed them? Putin and Iran cultivated HAMAS for 17 years - HAMAS terrorists used Russian weapons and were trained by Russian military in barbaric methods that violate international laws related to war (similar to their depraved tactics in Ukraine).

This is the very definition of kidnapping even if you don't like people thinking of it that way.

This is very likely going to help him. More awareness of his kidnapping and imprisonment. Why are you lying?
