Lol, not so fast. SW is still relatively strong until you get to the 2028s and lower. Foolish parents, like you it seems, still believed in SW’s model bc of its success in recruiting, but as time went by, kids stopped leaving teams like coppermine in HS. That is exactly what is going to happen with Capital. Look at the rankings, I am 100% correct: 2026- SW #17 (kids actually left this team for better squads, not the other way around) 2027- SW #22 (same as above) 2028- SW # 18, CM #7 (when a few girls left CM this summer, they went to teams like HG, not SW) 2029- SW #29, CM #6 (only girls cut from CM have gone to SW, not 1 girl willingly switched to SW this class) 2030- SW #36, CM #17 (same, no one is leaving CM for SW in this class) 2031- SW #46, CM #12 (same as above) 2032- SW #85, CM #9 (lol, nobody from CM is going to leave for #85) Overall rankings: SW #18, CM #12 As time has gone on, SW has fallen further behind because they tried sticking to their stupid HS only model while other programs grabbed players early. When my 2029 started playing club ball, SW had just realized that CM was eating its lunch and it started SW middle school teams, but it was too late. While SW used to be up there with YJ, M&D black, and HG in rankings and recruits, you can see that has slipped tremendously since the 2024 class because it is a dead model. From 2028 on, CM will have higher rankings, more recruits to better schools, and SW won’t be able to do anything about it, all bc of parents like you with their head in the sand. |
It is true, skywalkers has fallen off pretty fast. Their blue teams used to be a top 10 lock every single year but no more. You can already see the same thing happening to capital, 26s are pretty good, but 27s are #24 and 28s are #21. Who is going to leave heros or m&d for those squads? |
My niece played for Skywalkers. She left right before high school specifically because they discovered that no elite players were coming in during 9th grade. Me and my brother had the exact same conversation that is happening above. He told me they were leaving and I said that they were crazy because Skywalkers was an elite force. Turns out he was correct. Capital better wake up. And no, I’m not endorsing Next Level just warning potential Capital parents that previous performances have little to do with future success. |
Passionate debate above. My favorite line was "I am 100% correct". Not sure anyone has proven anything, however.
First, how does the comparison between SW and Capital help or hurt the argument? One is an old-line MD team that starts in grade school; Cap starts in 9th grade. It sounds like some are trying to show that SW is in decline and Coppermine, specifically, has benefitted and is on the rise. They cite some data for that conclusion which is somewhat persuasive. That said, I would wait for the flagship CM team (the 2028s) to go through recruiting--and not just their top three players, but the full team, top to bottom--before declaring full victory there. Another group seems to be arguing that Capital's HS-only model can be disrupted and that people won't wait for a team with squads in the 20s in the rankings. These folks are citing the 27s and 28s as sign of the decline. Let's assess this claim. For starters, anyone's business model can be disrupted by a better model. One just hasn't yet materialized in the DC-area. I would grant that there were certainly some signs of wobbling in the 2028 process as 5-7 Cap Blue-level players from VA and MoCo departed early for Baltimore teams, and a few more who stayed considered it. That said, citing the 27s current ranking and the 28s first 13 games as evidence of Capital's decline is both too early and overstated. The 2027s finished the 2023-24 season at #15, but have been facing a number of injuries to key personnel. The mighty Hero's Green 2025s were hit with a rash of ACLs and dropped out of the top 10 at the same point in their cycle; it can happen. I wouldn't jump to conclusions based on where the 2027 Cap Blue team is today. On the 2028's, let's see where they are in July. That team can beat anyone on any given day and will develop together and become more consistent. They also played the second toughest schedule in the country in the Fall. Way too early to tell where they are. Here's my predictions: Come July, 2029 families will do what they perceive as best for their kids. 2-4 will try out for and land players on MD teams. (Pro tip: make sure your DD plays well against them this year). The majority of the top tier of DC area 2029s will try out for and comprise Capital Blue 2029. Capital Orange will field a decent team. M&D DC will become the new Pride Black in 4rd place for the area for the high school years. |
No one has ever left heros or m&d for capital. Capital pulls from blc, stars, pride and now m&d dc. Assuming making heros and m&d black is not a viable option (especially if they’re going to invite only try outs) where else would you want your daughter to play in the DC area? M&D dc is only good our 29 year because of the way they merged with pride. Once those top girls leave for capital (and they are planning on it, don’t be fooled) the team will be as mediocre as its other age groups. It would be awesome if there was another high school dc team on par with capital, but that’s not the reality. Perhaps as time goes on people will start making the drive to elite MD clubs before middle school, but that ship has sailed for our 29s. So where would you have them play next year that is a better option than Capital? |
The move is to tryout for M&D/Hero’s after 7th grade. Get in the pipeline before high school. |
Right, but as previously stated, it’s too late for our 29s. The question still stands, for the anti capital people, where would you have your daughter play in the DC area next year that is a better opportunity than Capital Blue? |
There is nothing in DC that’s better. That’s already been established. |
what's the thoughts here on HW vs Orange vs Mnd Red? |
I agree. That’s why I don’t understand the capital hate or those saying it’s a sinking ship. There’s nothing better in the DC area and the best MD teams are invite only now. Sounds like capital blue has a lock on all the best 29s in the area. |
Invite only for tryouts. Talk to the coach of the team. If your DD is good, they will get an invite to tryout. Those teams are always looking to improve. |
You missed the entire point - wow. Coppermine was cited by a PP as an example of strong Balto players pre-hs staying with their clubs thru hs, draining talent from other clubs. That isn’t happening bec players flee coppermine for better clubs in 9th grade (like M&D Balto and Hero’s). Has nothing to do with SW. Coppermine is M&DDC in this scenario. |
All of you arguing for cap are missing the one big fact the SW had that same model of only HS teams in place until they realized players were not leaving there clubs like CM to join SW the way they once were. When they woke up to this and tried to make the adjustment it might have been too late CM now has a foot in the door. If capital doesn’t wake up they will have the same thing happen. Pride already tried it but they just did not have the right people in place. It’s just a matter of when not if capital wake up. |
Capital and M&D DC will split the 29 class making both teams average like they were when they were Pride and NL. M&D DC’s recruiting coordinator may make the difference with the addition of more talent. She may be the best HS coach for recruiting in the area. |
So basically taking the M&D DC team that can’t beat any of the Baltimore clubs and making them two mediocre teams (for this area)? I actually think this is what will happen. |
