First, how does the comparison between SW and Capital help or hurt the argument?  One is an old-line MD team that starts in grade school; Cap starts in 9th grade.  It sounds like some are trying to show that SW is in decline and Coppermine, specifically, has benefitted and is on the rise. They cite some data for that conclusion which is somewhat persuasive. That said, I would wait for the flagship CM team (the 2028s) to go through recruiting--and not just their top three players, but the full team, top to bottom--before declaring full victory there.

Another group seems to be arguing that Capital's HS-only model can be disrupted and that people won't wait for a team with squads in the 20s in the rankings.  These folks are citing the 27s and 28s as sign of the decline.  
Let's assess this claim.  For starters, anyone's business model can be disrupted by a better model.  One just hasn't yet materialized in the DC-area.

I would grant that there were certainly some signs of wobbling in the 2028 process as 5-7 Cap Blue-level players from VA and MoCo departed early for Baltimore teams, and a few more who stayed considered it.

That said, citing the 27s current ranking and the 28s first 13 games as evidence of Capital's decline is both too early and overstated.  The 2027s finished the 2023-24 season at #15, but have been facing a number of injuries to key personnel. The mighty Hero's Green 2025s were hit with a rash of ACLs and dropped out of the top 10 at the same point in their cycle; it can happen.  I wouldn't jump to conclusions based on where the 2027 Cap Blue team is today.

On the 2028's, let's see where they are in July.  That team can beat anyone on any given day and will develop together and become more consistent.  They also played the second toughest schedule in the country in the Fall.  Way too early to tell where they are.

Here's my predictions: Come July, 2029 families will do what they perceive as best for their kids.  2-4 will try out for and land players on MD teams. (Pro tip: make sure your DD plays well against them this year). The majority of the top tier of DC area 2029s will try out for and comprise Capital Blue 2029.  Capital Orange will field a decent team.  M&D DC will become the new Pride Black in 4rd place for the area for the high school years.
