Saturday - Thousands expected to attend pro-Palestine march in DC for ceasefire in Israel-Hamas war

You think it was a coincidence that this protest was on the Jewish sabbath? The one day when many Jewish people don’t drive and practice a day of rest?

Look, I’m not anti-Israel and pro-Jewish extermination so wouldn’t have been welcomed at the rally, but violating the boundaries of the White House seems much more restrained than rioting in the Capitol and attempting to overthrow an election. Not a fan of either but the latter seems infinitely more egregious. Think the “new normal” of lawlessness under Trump has opened the floodgates for all, sadly.

DP. As an aside I agree with you - this protest was more notable for its embrace of an antisemitic foreign policy goal as well as likely being funded by foreign governments. But the actual conduct of the protest was very well organized and with message discipline (ensuring that overt anti-semitism was minimized.) Ironically the chaos of Jan 6 bespeaks a lack of organizing coupled with intense propaganda manipulation - Trump literally incited an insane mob. I hope never to see something like that again.

That’s quite a definition of “minimized.”

Did you see a collection of swastikas or neo Nazi symbols such as some have reported at the London March for example? Or shouts to eliminate Jews? I am not talking about “river to the sea” and other chants that people disagree on, but “kill the Jews” which sort of stands on its own. Those are the things that were hopefully avoided.

There are photos of red paint on the white house perimeter walls and that Lafeyette Park which is the nation's park was trashed. I find that offensive. I also didn't like when the aliens blew up the White House in Independence Day. These iconic buildings were targets on 9/11. Maybe offending me was the point if this display? The protestors succeeded. I dislike them.

+1

The protestors have also effectively neutralized Democratic use of 1/6 footage as anti-Trump campaign material and for that I dislike them as well.

It must have been a tame rally if red hand prints on a fence are what's causing the pearl clutching.

Oh come on, Jeff. You are smarter than this.

There is footage of protestors in masks, carrying or having the flag of a foreign country (that harbors terrorists) nearby, at night, trying to scale the walls of the White House. Do you honestly think that footage isn’t going to play over and over and over as a counterweight to any J6 campaign ads Democrats put out? The protestors have given a very useful tool to Republican campaigns.

And of course J6 was much worse than the protests yesterday. But that doesn’t matter in the world of campaigning. What matters is that there is now plenty of harmful footage that lets Republicans say, see, yes J6 was bad but the Democrats also attacked the White House and they did it while carrying the flag of a foreign power that supports terrorism.

This next presidential election is going to be won or lost with moderate voters in swing states. That group was largely appalled by J6 and a steady stream of J6 footage would have made for effective campaign ads for Biden. But now that tool is a lot weaker, because there is a counterweight that looks very bad.

It doesn't matter what the protesters did or would have done. There would still be footage that was sufficient for Republican commercials. Republicans don't care about accuracy in their commercials. Democrats really have to get past the fear of what will end up in commercials. That's not what they were doing. Therefore, expressing those concerns is actually called "lying".

I’m confused. Are posters lying or pearl-clutching. This is a long thread, Be specific.

Speaking in generalities about thousands of individual protestors is disingenuous at best. It s impossible to accurately claim that none of the protestors were supporters of Hamas. Nothing more than biased wishful thinking.

This basically makes my point. There is no reason to pearl clutch about handprints on a fence because opponents would have simply moved on to the next equally unrepresentative person or activity. Even a single Hama-supporting protester would be sufficient to mischaracterize a crowd of thousands. That's how this game is played and I suggest not playing it.

Yes, I do. There are plenty of Jews who aren't shomer Shabbat who could have been at the rally or a counter protest. The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington urged people NOT to counter protest this weekend.

Perhaps the organizers shouldn't have asked everyone to "bring red paint"?? Maybe leave the paint at home next time.

You need to face the music. People have been angry for a long time about how much money our govt wastes propping up a belligerent theocratic "democracy," and this might be the straw the breaks the camel's back.

Right, US interests are totally served by letting Israel be destroyed

The state of Israel has resulted in nearly 7 decades of apartheid and oppression. Maybe it’s time for the US to stop giving it money and shielding it from the consequences of its actions on the world stage.

Look, many other states have failed and their people are fine. The third Reich was wiped off the face of the map and the German people have never been better. The USSR was wiped off the map and Russians are still invading other countries. The confederacy was wiped off the map and idiot Americans are thriving. If Israel is wiped off the map and Jews have to coexist in a democracy where everyone has a vote, they will be fine. And maybe they won’t have to build bomb shelters in their homes.

You mean the Third Reich that tried to exterminate all Jews and almost succeeded, leading the UN to create a safe haven for Jews on their indigenous lands that they had been living on for millennia even despite attempts to expel them? That Third Reich?

Please tell us more about the current Israeli Jews having lived on that land for millennia …

By this definition, you are a settler here in America. Why don’t you offer up your land to a Native American?

Democrats should be much more concerned that so many at the rallies were opposed to Biden, despite most likely being Democrats. That is much more of a danger than Republican commercials.

If the protest had ended only with the pictures we saw from the day, I would agree. Frankly those images would have helped Biden more than Trump because one of Biden’s electoral weaknesses is a strong sense amongst moderate and independent voters that the progressive left is totally and completely nuts. But peaceful protest showing calm but strong disagreement with Biden? That strengthens the perception of the Democrats as a big tent party that in the end helps the Democrats. In other words the Republicans are the party of J6 lunatics egged on by Trump while the Democrats are a party of responsible voters some of whom express strong disagreement with the president but do it peacefully and do not act like the J6 lunatics. Moderates and independents want to see strong but peaceful disagreement with Biden. That’s an endorsement for that group of voters not a problem.

But images and video of protestors trying to scale the wall of the White House at night, while carrying the foreign flag of terrorist-supporters? That’s extremely toxic and frankly it’s something that should be quickly condemned. And it’s going to help neutralize J6 as a campaign issue.

Most American voters care very little about this issue. They just don’t. To the extent they care, they don’t support terrorism, they don’t want American troops dying for what they see as religious nutcases and savages on both sides, and they want continued access to Middle Eastern oil. That’s about it. So pictures of protestors trying to get into the White House under the flag of a foreign power associated with terrorism is not going to do anything positive for the Democrats.

How come no one ever answer this? Like literally, never. Just curious. ^
