This is way too simplistic. IME, the most problematic kids have something else going on- be it developmental or a learning disability.

100%. The kids who can’t control their behavior have special needs. Autism, ADHD, bipolar, ODD, etc. Many have been evaluated and are medicated but still need support at school.

you have no idea what you're talking about. Sure, some SN kids can't control their behavior. Tons of gen ed kids can't, either.

I work in public schools. Many special needs are not obvious. These kids are super bright, socially motivated, and have involved parents… but they cannot stay regulated in a mainstream classroom.

This is my son. Maybe I should send him to military school.

Sure! He’ll be that much better with the AR-15.

The rights of the teacher and everyone else in the classroom don’t seem to matter at all. Why?

This! The cult of the individual does allow for advancement and creativity that makes America a leader but at the same time it is destroying us. We get so focused on one sheep that we forget to care for the rest of the flock.

They have also mostly shut down the METS programs where ESL students with limited, unstable education were assigned to focus on their specific needs. Now these kids are more mainstreamed in the general Ed programs with less support basically due to the race optics. I consider a new form of racism. Functionally, they are not getting help because of their race/ethnicity. It makes equity about optics to me instead of actually putting kids in the programs they need to be successful. We would just rather lower standards and move them along.

How did the Mark Twain population differ from the RICA population?

I’ve been told that RICA students have mental health issues that cause their behavior while MT students made the choice to act the way they did.

Good thing it closed down, then. They probably ran out of students who choose to act badly, now that everyone is diagnosed with something.

Mark Twain was not for badly behaved kids. Mark Twain was at school for kids with learning disabilities. Kids went there when they were dyslexic or had other learning disabilities. When the law was passed that these children needed to be mainstreamed, parents knew the law had the mainstreamed. Mark Twain became a school for kids that were misbehaving, because teachers wanted to get rid of certain students because they were hard to teach so they sent them to Mark Twain.. That went on for about eight years and then they closed it.

If you read the document, you will see that only 1 in 3 had learning disabilities.

No, the latest American fad is not the cult of the individual; it's the cult of the minority (not race; just small populations whose needs must trump everyone else's). Can't fly without a pig? Bring them on board and too bad if you are sitting next to the pig. Want to use the girl's bathroom, but have a penis? Come on it and too bad for the girl who is uncomfortable or scared. Want to destroy the classroom? We'll all leave and let you go ahead...

Sounds like you to take a deep breath and maybe seek help.

Not even “we’ll all leave and let you go ahead” more like “we’ll stand by and act like what you’re doing isn’t harmful because if we punish or reprimand you, that’s punitive and we’re not allowed to hurt your feelings but you can hurt everyone else’s.”

The world is upside and we’ve let a lot of fools with big mouths get away with too much stupidity. The moderate and common sense voice to push back against the extremism going on in society today.

I teach this class. No one is learning very much because I spend most of the time trying to redirect the behavior of a child who screams regularly in class, crawls on the floor all over the room, and persistently distracts others. It's exhausting and it robs the other students of their education. I'm done.

More likely to fight his country.

It’s the same in larger society. We spend so many resources on the one troubled kid that we don’t have the resources to make sure that the other kids don’t end up troubled as well. Thousands spent on the carjacking kid, but nothing for the average, well behaved kid in the same neighborhood.
