Absolutely. Plus GP currently has two alumni on the Supreme Court. Fabulous place to get an education

The school is not what it used to be. You can't live in the past.

Oh look, another parent whose DS didn't get in to Prep.

Catholic family here. Catholic schools all the way through grad school. Still have a couple in the late grade school years. Prep isn't what it used to be. The k-8 matriculation is weak compared to other area Catholic schools. The college outcomes are not on par with other privates, or publics for anyone comparing. It is not an anti-catholic issue. It's the school. Lots of people see through the presentation and polish, know the past is past, and correctly place it is as the weakest of area independent schools. Country club campus. Sub-standard school.

Tell me your kids didn't get into GP without saying your kids didn't get into GP.

I know right.

I always considered Prep to be on the same level as Stone Ridge and VISI, but not anymore. When you look at the matriculations, SR and VISI are much much stronger. Many going to top 20 schools on their own merits (as well as some recruits). It is not as lopsided as Prep, which seems to only get athletes and wealthy Chinese students into the top schools. Quite disappointing.

yeah, something went really wrong with Prep this year. Visi, Stone Ridge, Gonzaga all did much better with the unconnected kids. Prep has the Chinese kids, the athletes, the Georgetown matriculations and then everyone else is just sort of going somewhere random.

Well, if getting your son into a top school is your number one overarching priority, then Prep would not be the place for your family. Thank goodness there are other schools for you to choose from.

The families that do choose Prep seem to have a different (and maybe broader) set of objectives and expectations.

I can assure you that the Prep parents are almost universally pleased with the colleges their sons move on to after Prep.

Is this a joke post?

No disrespect to the 2023 grads, but Prep’s college admissions this year are underwhelming.

As a Prep alum who has had two sons there recently I can assure you the school is very similar to what it”used to be”.

There are 100 more students, more buildings and way better athletic facilities. But the basic curriculum, the boys and the their families and the spirit of the place is still the same as it was.

That may be one of the things that separates it from other schools that are swept up in chasing the latest and greatest “fad”.

Well we chose our Catholic HS for the excellent curriculum and focus on service and Catholic faith. The great college my kid got into was due to his hard work, and perhaps the fact he did so well in a school with a challenging curriculum. I don't know why this isn't the outcome for Prep students.

Could it be that there’s a difference between what colleges you think are great and what the GP parents and boys think is “great”.

You wouldn’t want to imprint your value system on others, I hope.

The Catholic community that sends its sons to Prep and Gonzaga here is different than in other cities. Colleges that get “ooohs” and “aaah’s in Boston or NYC hardly move the interest meter here.

I think their list is great and appreciate that it is a whole list and not curated. I cannot say enough great things about the school. I do believe some parents whose kid didn’t get in seems to post negatively or else why post about kids from a school your kid doesn’t attend. I know it was a tight year for admissions but no need to be so nasty. Be happy with your school choice and move on.

What HS did your son attend? You protest a bit much.

My son attended Gonzaga and went on to Notre Dame. A good number of non-athlete, non legacy GZ students also were admitted to ND that year. Not seeing much action with ND at Prep these days. That is problematic for what is supposed to be a top a Catholic HS that used to send many boys to ND as well as other top 20 schools.

let’s compare college destinations for the top 10% of the graduating class at Prep and Gonzaga and College for the last 5 years. Prep’s are superior. Then let’s compare Prep and Gonzaga top to bottom and it will be no contest.

Gonzaga people have such a chip on their shoulder.
