How far away do you need to be from DC to be safe from a nuclear attack?

+1

We'll just be left with the insane MAGA preppers. Kill me now.

Agree and appreciate this post for a moment of levity.

LOL I appreciate and agree too!

Well that’s nice. The three of you agree.

Yay.

One single SATAN missile from Russia can destroy the entire state of Texas in an instant. Only 5 SATAN missiles are required to destroy the entire East or West coast of the US. You could drive hundreds of miles and still need 100000000000000 SPF sunblock. Even if you managed to live in the middle of the US and the costs were destroyed by SATAN missiles, you'd still probably die of the massive nuclear fallout and radiation poisoning. Land would become unarable for 10000 years, so at a minimum you face complete starvation.

Best just to die in a direct hit.

No. Just no.

Where do you come up with this nonsense?

You're behind the times. Russia has developed a single missile that is a country killer:

This is absolutely false.

You’re going to have to survive with a bunch of MAGA lunatics running around. Good luck.

The MAGA people I see around me are all decent, capable, law abiding family people. I don't agree with their politics but some of you have a very warped perspective of Trump voters in flyover.

+1 and I am not a Trumper

+1 and not a Trumper either, but people like the PP above NEED to brand people who support MAGA as lunatics so it can justify their own vicious hatefulness. Makes them feel good about themselves.

Nope. MAGA actions speak for themselves.

Your schtick is getting worn out.

I didn’t vote for Trump, but I will also acknowledge we didn’t have 22 page thread about a possible Russian nuclear attack during his presidency, either.

I have a serious case of buyer’s remorse with Joe Biden. I now look at the Trump-era fondly. I feel awkward admitting it, because I hate being wrong. But that’s how I feel.

GMAFB. You are blaming Biden for this?

“I voted for Biden but…” Sure you did. Liar.

The actions of those that would prefer American not to be great are pretty clear.

You mean the ones who are cheering on Putin?

You don’t know them well enough. They have zero morals. I wouldn’t trust any of them in an apocalypse.

I’m not sure democrats can claim the high ground on morality anymore (and that’s coming from a liberal). I know a lot of democrats, pretty much everyone I interact with is a democrat, a lot of them have shown to be privileged, whining, out of touch a-holes for the past two years.

Maybe you should talk to the MAGA's....cry baby, out of touch, privileged, know it alls that care about nobody but themselves....so maybe its just a lot of terrible humans. Thats the saddest part.

This is one of the most insane threads I've ever read on DCUM.

All you paranoid folk must know nothing about nuclear war!!

Mutually Assured Destruction means just that. No one will survive. The planet will not survive. Everything and everyone on the planet will die.

The only "safe" place to be is on the Space Station, but even then, you could never come back to Earth.

Putin likes to make threats. You've heard his hyperbole, right? Calling the Ukrainian government (headed by a Jewish president) Nazis and drug addicts?

Putin has children, believe it or not. There are people on the planet he cares about. He does not want his country annihilated. He wants to expand Russia's territory and return to the glory days of the USSR. He does not want to blow up Russia. That is not in his plans. Blowing up any part of Europe would destroy Russia also, which he doesn't want to do.

Calm down. Eat some ice cream. Watch a movie.

BTW I have a supply of potassium iodide in my medicine cabinet. I bought it about a decade ago (it's likely expired) when there was concern about a nuclear power plant accident. That's a much more real threat than Putin launching nuclear weapons, which he categorically will not do. Of if he does, he'll launch them into the ocean or in the middle of Siberia. He wants power and land. Nuclear war will give him neither.

Ice cream. Snacks. Netflix. Naps.

Leave now if you’re leaving. I’ve already thought this through—years ago—and know we won’t make it out on 270 or 95 south or north during an emergency. Too much traffic.

Don't feed them your fear. It's mind control.

Sooo...Hiroshima and Nagasaki...that was just like a bad day or two?

I guess the PP thinks it was just some flatulence.

Unless you are thinking that this is going to be an all out nuclear slug-fest, DC is probably safer than anywhere. The last thing you want to do in a limited nuclear engagement is completely decapitate your rival. No one to negotiate surrender with, no one to tell nuclear submarines to stand-down. It is an exercise in mutual destruction without any hope at all. In a limited scenario, cities like Houston or Minneapolis or Chicago would be more likely targets.

Even during Sept 11 when traffic much lighter than now - so many people had to get out of their cars and walk on their mass exodus out of DC after the feds finally let their workers leave …

NP. Fact remains we didn't have a potential nuclear war looming over us when Trump was president. He took a strong stance against Putin and put sanctions on the pipeline being built between Russia and Europe and warned of Europeans becoming too energy dependent on Russia. He called out NATO for taking advantage of the US, which NATO was doing. There are many, many, many things I disagree with Donald Trump but much of his foreign policy was actually on target. Despite all this, Trump got pilloried in the presses. But had the Germans and other nations not been so short sighted and shut down their nuclear plants in exchange for becoming energy dependent on Russia, had all the NATO countries lived up to their military spending obligations, Putin wouldn't be thinking the West is weak and divided and invading Ukraine. It's not to Joe Biden's credit that he removed the sanctions Trump put on the Russian pipeline. Nor do I think it was wise to have all the US embassies fly BLM and rainbow flags in despotic regions. In case you hadn't noticed, both Russia and China have been increasingly dismissive and aggressive since Biden took office and it's not hard to see why they may be thinking the US is weak.

Right. Why would Putin pull this stunt while he already had a puppet in the White House?

Flying rainbows didn't trigger Putin FFS.

Putin runs a Petro state. Oil is 50% of gdp. He needs Ukraine to send that oil out and he needs Ukraine’s reserves in the Black Sea to keep his petro state running. This is purely about keeping his oil-fueled regime in power. Everything else is theatrics. NATO could get on it’s knees and kiss his rear and he would still take southern Ukraine because his oil addicted regime can’t survive without it. He’s built a poor country with a small elite class. He has no other cards to play.

Trump is praising Putin's directives... I can't imagine what he'd be doing if he were in office right now, maybe helping Putin?
