How far away do you need to be from DC to be safe from a nuclear attack?

Damn, this is a scary depressing thread.

I’m going to die in the fireball no matter what. Better than being in MD or VA and getting horrifying radiation poisoning and dying weeks or months later.

I figured back then I would have 5 minutes ish to get into a basement or the center of a tall building. Looked like greatest possibility would be for radiation to blow east or northeast. Seems logical because weather normally moves in that direction. I think you're supposed to stay bunkered 2 days. Not certain on number of days

There are targets all around here outside of the beltway

What are the places to be away from? In MD specifically? No interest in trying to go to VA somewhere.

Andrews AFB and NSA headquarters would be some of the first targets.

Hah, I know.

My concern is if my child is at school and we are close enough to not having a chance to “survive” but not close enough to go instantly.

What happened? Why does OP think nuclear war is imminent?

THERE ARE NO NUCLEAR ANYTHINGS ON THIS SHIP CALLED EARTH
Never was, never will be.
If there were don't you think by now we'd all be dead ?
Nukes are used to make you live in fear.
Don't feed them your fear. It's mind control.

Hey! Fellow Gen Xer here too. We lived near Norfolk so that's how my parents consoled me as well.

Nope. They were a fake, just like the moon landing.

I'd like to know too. I didn't want to watch the press conference, but apparently it alarmed a lot of people.

I live 2 miles from the Pentagon. I will be gone in the initial blast. Probably much better than suffering with the deadly radiation effects and destruction. I won’t even know what hit me.

NP: All jokes and insults aside. Is this something we should really be prepping for? Someone educate me please….

Anyone leaving the city today, this week?

Yep — although we were more in a town like the one in Red Dawn, good times. Mine assured me that since the end result would be Mutually Assured Destruction, no one sane would go there.

Sane being the operative word there.

Um. I’ve seen them as have thousands of others. With my own eyeholes. You are clearly not well.
