Some friends this girl had. Even if she hooked up with the guy, when she didn't show up for the excursion after she venmo'd for it, how could they just go about their day until 4pm.

And this guy with the hero syndrome most likely did something to her.

And the parents knowing she's dead probably just don't want her name dragged through the mud by the Indian circle in Ashburn and Aldie and want her declared dead. They must be looking out for their other children.

It's sad that this girl won't get justice.

Hopefully she will get justice if a crime was committed.

Here’s an article re: the death declaration. It’s not a thing in DR without evidence of crime or a body. It’s pretty unprecedented even in US less than 2 weeks into an investigation. I hope the parents were united re this.

It was for religious (Hindu) reasons due to the the 13 days of mourning period.

That is an assumption that now people are spouting as fact.

It's the most likely scenario. That and that the victim drown.

Others have said not part of being Hindu.

I think parents wanted to try to shut down videos being played and discussion.

Very unusual request and timing. Has only sparked more discussion.

google says it's part of Hindu ritual at day 13.

For whatever reasons, her parents made a decision. If DR and whomever wants to continue let them do whatever they do in DR. Best if all left the families alone, they have been through enough as it is.

Well, you should read the 208 pages. Nothing you have said hasn't been said already and discussed.

How would an official ruling have any bearing on that?

Not what anyone is talking about. Auntie confused.

Do you want contact info to DA in DR or Mr Sheriff in Loudoun? No one here knows.

No. Not at all.

But could they go if *someone* pays for their ticket and lodging? Just as an example and not saying this has happened in this case and honestly haven't ever heard of it happening, but what if a church group were to hire their local LE to go check on things somewhere that's not in US if members of their church were in situation or in an incident involving them? Could a Barney level person do that as a private officer or if they go would they be doing so as a LE rep from U.S.?

Since it happened here, presumably it could happen in other instances , no?

Did Loudoun Sheriff go by request of young woman's family or...??

Why don’t you call LC and ask if you care so much and are a VA taxpayer?

This is not only about VA taxpayers. A question for any LE in US. Do they insert themselves into situations when it happens outside US? Not asking about FBI but a local county sheriff office.

You could start a new thread and ask if posters are familiar with other cases. And hope you never need to find out directly.

No, it was a brief delay in PR.

If he hasn’t gotten home yet, then the PR delay wasn’t brief.

Her parents’ action is not even based in law and it’s an extremely unusual action, esp less than 2 weeks after she went missing. They have created an additional spectacle.

I’m not sure both parents are in agreement re this timing.

Ok, so when your kid dies unexpectedly you will consider legal ramifications before acting?

JFC these people lost their daughter and just want some closure. They have accepted it. I suggest you do the same.

13th day ceremony is done to close out the death and give permission to the family to move on from the grieving period. The declaration of death will let them do it. Plus as the news articles mention, it will let them tend to her estate - insurance, 529s etc.

I hope her body turns up so they can expedite this process in the DR.

What? If this is true, is being in PR now related to the passport?
