Note that she personalized them with their NAMES and not their titles. She lower cased the "f" in family and upper cased it in stating they are leaving the Royal Family.
The shade the English use is amazing. Sorry Megs. You chose the wrong suitcase.

Subtext is de rigeur for the British and no one does it better than the Queen. We love you, you are part of the family, but you are out of the family business.

But she did say "the Sussexes".

The Queen is not making a repeat of what happened to Diana. People blamed her and still do. The Sussexes, as their title, are going to be well taken care of and will retain their Duke and Duchess of Sussex designation.

The title was never in question. It's for life. It's always for life absent treason.

What could have been up for grabs was the designation (royal highness etc). That was the issue with Diana. She lost HRH because she was no longer wife of the prince of wales, but convention allowed her to continue calling herself Diana, Princess of Wales (The same convention is used for any titles in the UK by the divorced wife).

Yep. That’s the first thing that jumped out for me

Because that's what the Queen declared. Hello - did you read the statement? And Meghan's in Vancouver right now waiting for Harry so that's where they want to be.

Well THEY are the the ones that said North America, not me. It was obviously undecided until today.

Exactly.

Here's my guess as to how it will work:
Main residence and schooling for Archie: Canada (40% of their time)
Major Royal duties: UK (20% of the time)

You forgot their 12 weeks a year of royal vacations.
Hustling for money: US (20% of the time)
Travel abroad, either for Royal duties or work: 20% of the time

Openly that sounds amazing. Way better than being confined to a house next to a graveyard in dreary Windsor for 80% of the year.

If this works out, they really have set the standard for the best royal model ever and if Louis or Charlotte follows them - they'll be happier.

It was literally the lifelong fantasy of basically every millennial woman in the West.

let’s say that this is true but Harry is not interested in millions of average women. the pool of women who interest him
is very small and as they all age very few of them remain available. he would be able to find a young good looking rando till the end of his life but that is not what interests him.

Well, he married a rando, didn't he?

no, he didn’t. he married an a fairly accomplished actress. not an A lister for sure but it’s a very cutthroat industry where she managed to do well.

“Rando”means they didn’t run in the same circles, share the same friends, interests or hobbies. They don’t have the same background, religion or nationality. Sounds pretty rando to me.

that’s not what random means. rando is a random, average person not notable for anything.

Agree that it was a very well written statement. Lol. ‘Family’ v ‘family’. You are either in or you are out.

Reality: Divorce in five years, Meghan moves back to LA. Harry returns to UK.

In the meantime: hustling for money 80% of the time, visiting UK for a few royal ceremonies, 10% of the time.

Meghan reportedly made around $5 million in the course of her acting career on Suits - $50K per episode and then a bunch more money for brand sponsorship, her two fashion lines, and her "lifestyle" stuff.

I went to NYU with a ton of out-of-work actors who would desperately love her supposed "D-list" success of $5 million. If she wasn't married to Harry, she could easily retire as a single mom assuming she wisely invested her money.

Don’t forget all the royal vacations. This is not specific to them. They all seem to take off most of summer and a long time at Christmas.

Or Australian Margot Robbie! She's so perfect. Looks like a princess.

Mmm... you mean she is white, while as the Black biracial Meghan does not....

I mean Margot is a flawlessly gorgeous 10 out of 10 A Lister. Megain is a 6 out of 10 D Lister.

Margot Robbie is no A lister.

1. It’s a shorter flight to the U.K. and

I think if they wanted to be in Toronto they would have chosen it for their vacation.

Vancouver is better because the WEATHER is better in western Canada, its closer to L.A. with Doria, its also closer to Meghan's contacts in Hollywood as well as her business manager/lawyers etc.

Jessica already came out to visit over Christmas - I'm sure she wouldn't mind doing extensive stays with her kids.

Also BTW Vancouver is worlds prettier than Toronto

If I had to chose I'm picking Vancouver (which gives me San Francisco/Seattle vibes) over Toronto (more NYC/Chicago vibes).

Shot themselves in the foot for sure.

Totally agree. They need a good CJ Craig.

No, it sounds pretty dreadful. And they're going to be broke, to boot.

And Archie goes to birding school in England

Lol at Doria. Like that matters. And having a friend 3 time zones away is not the same as local.

They will keep the title and receive some financial support, but for all intent and purposes they will be blackballed. And it will be just as subtly done as in the statement. They handled this so poorly, I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't already labeled as "loose cannons" who need to be managed with kid gloves. Anyways, I think the distance will do everyone a world of good.

Yeah, but Diana was a divorcee and Charles was petty.

Harry is the son of the King for life. I can't imagine a world where that HRH would be taken away especially when Andrew gets to keep his.
