| I thought they had issues with Russia? Political gurus, your help is appreciated! |

We don't yet know the motivation of these guys. Based on what I've pieced together, they barely lived in Chechnya. Their uncle says they grew up in Kyrgyzstan. One seems to have gone to school in Dagestan. They came to the US when they were about 10 and 11 years old. I would not draw much from the fact that they may be ethnically Chechen.
On the other hand, given the US global involvement, just about anyone could come up with a political grievance against us. |
| Muslim extremists don't just come from the giant sandbox. |
What information to you have that they are Muslim extremists? |
Thanks Jeff! Staying tuned to find out what the motivation was. |

Nothing. They are originally from another country and probably got annoyed with some sort of policy somewhere along the line.
The older was a good boxer, was being looked at by the USOC to possibly be on the US team. They robbed a 7-11 so I don't think they were funded by anyone or any organization. |

Not "proof" just evidence of an emerging profile of the bombers (draw your own conclusions): -Apparently someone managed to save a few pics and quotes from the older (dead) bomber's social media pages. One alleged quote under a pic of him and his girlfriend at the boxing gym: " Tamerlan says his girlfriend is half Portuguese, half Italian girlfriend and converted to Islam: "She's beautiful, man!" Another alleged post shows him without his shirt over the quote along the lines of "Tamerlan says he doesn't usually take his shirt off so girls don't get bad ideas: "I'm very religious." " |
Please don't post links without an explanation. In the case of this link, you could have described it as "Mother Jones wrongly states that Tamerlan Tsarnaev posted a video about Islam when in reality Tamerlan Tsarnaev simply subscribed to a Youtube channel on which the video was posted." Tamerlan Tsarnaev subscribed to a few Youtube channels. One was named "Islam" and another dealt with music. That is pretty slim evidence of being an extremist of any kind. I wouldn't want people making judgements about me based on my Youtube feed. They would think I am a fan of Vincent Orange. |
No - just this morning an NPR reported tried to raise the same possibility in a WAMU interview with an expert on Chechnya. The NPR reporter posed a question along the lines of: "well, the war in Chechnya sought independence from Russia, so couldn't that have been a possible motive instead of Islamic radicalism?" NPR's chosen expert quickly shot down that idea, explaining that, during the first war in Chechnya (1994-96) there were elements simply seeking independence from Russia, but after that, the resistance transformed and became purely a muslim extremist group seeking to unite all muslims in the area. They even declared something like a "sultanate or caliphate of the North Caucuses. IF (and this is an incresingly small "if") the Boston / Chechen suspects were motivated by radical islamic beliefs, one would do well to remember the slaughter of school children in Beslan (good reason to bolster school security - with more than a walkie-talkie & ployester uniform) - and the brutal Moscow theater siege. Question now is: how many other groups like these are already in the US ready to strike? |
| Local reports on WBUR in Boston that the family if from Kurdistan not Chechyna. |
No religious Muslim would have girlfriends. These guys appear to be Chechen; their social network pages list their languages as English, Russian and Chechen and there is no reason for anyone to speak Chechen other than being born to it. The fact they lived in Kirgizstan for a time is irrelevant; they are most assuredly not Kirgiz. |
