Trump campaign death spiral

Inhibitions are the self-control mechanisms we all have that stop us doing things that break the rules of our society.
If someone close to you has dementia, you might notice that they stop following these social rules and behave in a way that’s very out of character for them.
This is called disinhibition, and it can look like:
- rude, tactless or hurtful comments
- sexual comments or inappropriate flirting
- undressing in public places
- touching their genitals in public
- impulsive actions, like dangerous driving.

I agree with Alzheimer patients having disinhibitions, my mom suffers from the disease, but I just think he is unraveling because he sees the writing on the wall. Trump is scared sh*tliss about going to jail and just cannot focus anymore. Also he must be exhausted on the campaign trail, so he keeps making mistakes, or forgets to use a filter and his real thoughts come through. Plus, he is an idiot and a racist!

Agree with this. I don't like it when people diagnose him with Alzheimers or dementia -- these are real issues that many people struggle with and placing those labels on Trump feels unkind to people who are just regular people suffering through these issues. It's like when people insult Trump by calling him fat or saying he acts like a child. Why insult people who are overweight or children in that way?

I do think the stress of the campaign is getting to him. He spends a lot of time in his speeches these days complaining about it. Also I keep seeing all these photos and videos of how empty a lot of his rallies are. He has eyes -- he can see it too. He is worried that interest in him is flagging and the enthusiasm just isn't there.

Trump acts like an idiot but he's not actually stupid -- just very immature and entitled. He knows the vibe of his campaign is off and he can feel it. I've seen this comment from beat reporters who have been covering Trump a long time. His rallies historically have been a good time for people -- music and dancing and a lot of humor including in his speech. For his fans this is like going to a concert -- he puts on a show. But a lot of his rallies don't feel that way anymore. And this started before Biden even dropped out. Some people trace it back to the assassination attempt (which would put anyone on edge). Others even before that.

It's unsurprising to me that Trump's stage act is growing stale. He's been at it for too long and his material needs a big refresh. He's basically a hack comedian trying to revive his former glory with the same old tired jokes to an audience who has heard them a million times before. Even the die hards are getting bored.

I don't think this means longtime Trump supporters will suddenly vote for Harris -- let's get real. But I think it's making it hard for him to successfully convert a lot of new voters (his podcast circuit has helped with young men but they are a deeply unreliable voting bloc -- many aren't even registered). And will the lack of enthusiasm keep some of his supporters home? Especially in places like NC where Helene has given them other things to worry about? He can't actually afford to lose anyone. He needs every single vote.

Enthusiasm around Harris seems to be peaking at the right time, in comparison.

On the dementia question though, it’s clinical psychologists who are saying he has dementia. They are able to make the diagnosis because he has been in the public eye for decades and so it’s possible to see how much he has declined and how he is now exhibiting very specific symptoms. And his family should see it too. Most families would not let an ill elderly family member humiliate himself like this. It’s awful.

The slurred speech, the incoherent rambling, and all of the other things he does can't possibly be part of an "act" - he's clearly in some kind of cognitive decline.

It may not be Alzheimer's or dementia, but he clearly has age related senility and age related physical deterioration. Go back and take a look at interviews when in the 1990's and early 2000's. At that point he was in his mid-50's and he was much more clear-spoken, used significantly more multi-syllabic words. He had a filter and was much better at hiding his anti-social and socially unacceptable thoughts. He spoke much more clearly without the slurring. He is much more easily distracted and he often wanders and strays into stream of consciousness with little regard for social filtering.

Now, he exhibits many of the habits of old men that are in or ready to reside in senior assisted living. Even without Alzheimer's or dementia, he clearly does not have the mental clarity to hold the office he is running for. It is just a matter of time, weeks and months, not years, when he is no longer able to function coherently enough for the office of the President. As we know from the many men who have held the office in the last 100 years, the office ages the office holder much faster than normal, on the order of 10 years for a one year term. He will be very, very lucky to be mentally coherent enough by the mid-terms to continue to hold the office.

It is truly cruel both to him and to the nation to elect him to the Oval Office.

What will his cult do when he is out of the picture. That, I worry about.

Nah. It’ll be like the end of The Truman Show; they’ll see what else is on. Many of them are already itching for new entertainment. Trump is boring now.

I think about the end of The Truman Show all the time these days. All the time.

It won’t matter SCOTUS will install him. We are screwed they can not let him win. Alito and Thomas won’t allow it. Republicans know where to file lawsuits in Texas

You think that matters? Dems will not fight just like Gore. Dems will meekly except anything the Supreme Court says.

The whole point of these rallies is to get voters excited to vote, to GOTV etc. If no one is there, then....

Trump has been unraveling in real time over at least the past 6 months. The media just keeps glossing over it while they mercilessly picked Biden apart.

Yes. Trump needs to be tucked up at home in front of his tv watching golf highlights.

Bingo. The media owners need Trump in office and that’s what they’ve set out to do.

That is some grade A flop sweat. Those are awful optics in the last days of the election.

A theory floating around political circles is that his campaign is doing these rallies in uncontested states like NM and VA because they can't get big crowds in swing states anymore and those places offer shots at bigger crowds since Trump hasn't already been there. It's to boost his mood and ego because he can see his other rallies are half (or more) empty and enthusiasm doesn't seem to be there.

Looks like he’s not getting big crowds anywhere though.
