The MAJORITY of parents, except in the rich schools, choose to keep their kids virtual so stop blaming just MCPS. COVID has not moved on. In this area, number have dropped but its still alive and well in other parts fo the country and around the world. Until it is under control everywhere covid has not moved on. Parents will continue to send in their kids sick, which is a huge issue for some of us. You want child care. Pay for camps this summer or a private academic class, like we are if you are really concerned about how your child is doing. MCPS for 3 weeks of summer school isn't much for any child and pretty worthless.

Even for more money, teachers would still have to pay for child care and many want a break. They are on a 10 month contract. If you have moved on, want summer school, why don't you sign up to teach. Sometimes its not just about the money. There is no way I'd send my kids in person this summer. Its too risky in ES and MS where kids aren't vaccinated and parents like you don't believe covid exists and will not even take the most basic safety precautions.

I didn't follow those pages but it was a select few. As a parent I am thankful MCEA stood up to protect our kids and families and many of us wanted to continue DL through the school year. Stop blaming the teachers. Clearly there was more support for virtual than in person given the rallies.

No MCEA did not protect our families. Private schools were open all year with minimal to no cases and no deaths.Our kids are behind academically, our kids took AP exams online and could not go back to change an answer, our kids missed out on social interactions, our kids were stuck at home with stressed out parents for a year. It’s all on MCEA and since MCEA represents teachers, it’s on teachers.

No, your kids are behind. Mine did well this year. Mine got plenty of socialization, it just looked different. If your kids are miserable at home, that is your fault. Not mcps. Correction, MCPS has an obligation to provide a quality education. Which includes in person learning as social emotional is just as important as academic. So yes, more money might incentivize those who are on the fence about working summer school.

Mcps has an obligation to provide an education. No need to homeschool. Mcps still has Covid cases. It is not just about deaths. My middle schooler is not eligible for the vaccine.

Correction, MCPS has an obligation to provide a quality education. Which includes in person learning as social emotional is just as important as academic. So yes, more money might incentivize those who are on the fence about working summer school.

I can't believe anyone is arguing that virtual kindergarten constitutes "an education". SMH.

I am so sick of MCPS. They can find money for fru fru stuff but not enough money so that we can have schools open and teachers/staff that want to come back?!!!!

If they cannot get staff they need to increase the summer money or whatever the staff is demanding. As other people have mentioned there is a teacher shortage, NOW.IS.NOT.THE.TIME. for the county to be in a fight with teachers when the rest of us need schools to be open for summer and fall.

Money was not why we didn't return. COVID was. We don't NEED schools open in person, you want them open. We need to have our kids get an education. There is nothing in the rules that says it has to be in person. Teachers did what they were told. They were told to DL. They didn't have the choice so stop blaming them.

I also remember teachers organizing a drive in rally protesting returning to school and causing traffic jams on Rockville pike. It was MCEA and teachers who obstructed the return to school last July and this entire year. Not MCPS.

I do not care about the past. I care about now. Let's move on. COVID has moved on and there are plenty of vaccines. People in this area are dragging out the virtual slgnaling way too long. If schools cannot people to work in them, then they need to throw money at the problem or get creative. At this point if the current summer bonus is not working, then they need to offer more money. Everyone has a price, how much is the county willing to shell out so that kids in elementary can be in person.

The MAJORITY of parents, except in the rich schools, choose to keep their kids virtual so stop blaming just MCPS. COVID has not moved on. In this area, number have dropped but its still alive and well in other parts fo the country and around the world. Until it is under control everywhere covid has not moved on. Parents will continue to send in their kids sick, which is a huge issue for some of us. You want child care. Pay for camps this summer or a private academic class, like we are if you are really concerned about how your child is doing. MCPS for 3 weeks of summer school isn't much for any child and pretty worthless.

Even for more money, teachers would still have to pay for child care and many want a break. They are on a 10 month contract. If you have moved on, want summer school, why don't you sign up to teach. Sometimes its not just about the money. There is no way I'd send my kids in person this summer. Its too risky in ES and MS where kids aren't vaccinated and parents like you don't believe covid exists and will not even take the most basic safety precautions.

I didn't follow those pages but it was a select few. As a parent I am thankful MCEA stood up to protect our kids and families and many of us wanted to continue DL through the school year. Stop blaming the teachers. Clearly there was more support for virtual than in person given the rallies.

No MCEA did not protect our families. Private schools were open all year with minimal to no cases and no deaths.Our kids are behind academically, our kids took AP exams online and could not go back to change an answer, our kids missed out on social interactions, our kids were stuck at home with stressed out parents for a year. It’s all on MCEA and since MCEA represents teachers, it’s on teachers.

No, your kids are behind. Mine did well this year. Mine got plenty of socialization, it just looked different. If your kids are miserable at home, that is your fault. Not mcps. We were not stressed and enjoyed the time together. You not being able to handle your kids is on you, not others. I am glad mine were home. Privates were irresponsible.

Well, good luck with the VA next year then. You're no longer anybody else's problem here any more. Go do your thing.
