PP wasn't saying teachers should be forced to teach summer school but thanks for the reminder that teachers think only their families matter, only they need child care (everyone else is a neglectful parent),only they struggle to balance work and famy when children are sick and only they provide and important service to the community. |
If you decide what your family needs is hold care for the summer, you have lots of options ranging from camp to a babysitter. If teachers decide what their families need is for mom or dad to be home for the summer, there is no other way to get that. |
PP was saying they want MCPS to tell her what is going on so she can plan for the summer, just like teachers needed notice before being required to show up in person. But as usual only teachers can complain about anything. Never have I met a more self-involved group of people. F#$k the apple ballot. |
| If you don't want to provide child care, don't be a teacher, or teach permanent virtual school. |
| The disdain you have for working parents is not a good look you selfish POS |
You are gravely misreading me here. Stop doing it. |
Truth is, nobody has details right now. |
Funny— if I were a teacher, I’d think the same think about MCPS parents, except I’d throw entitled in there along with self-involved. Never have I been so ashamed to have to be a part of a group of people. I’ve never met a more selfish group of parents in my life. I want to go back to Howard County where people are refreshingly normal. Nobody acts like MCPS parents do— and the other county school districts we’ve been in are much worse off, where parents actually should be complaining the way you all do. |

This is on the MCPS summer 2021 website: By June 21, confirmation will be sent by the local school.
https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/coronavirus/summer-programs.aspx A friend of mine already got an email from Viers Mill. |
JFC then go back if you hate it here so much |

I know several people on this thread have claimed that they do not care about pay but as a young teacher, it is about the pay for me. The "extra" $200 is nothing compared to what I can make in tips at a high end restaurant on weekends and busy nights.
If MCPS doubled the money to $400 or got as close as possible to $400 then I might be incentivized to work for them. |
ya I feel for the teachers some of the parents posting here are monsters |

Does anyone know if MCPS has staffing for ESY summer school this year?
Based on another thread that I searched MCPS went from 4 hours a day to 6 hours of ESY (5 weeks) with Fridays off but that was only AFTER parents complained... Can any special education ESY teachers chime in please? |
| As someone who has applied to teach summer school and knows others that have also applied, no one that I’ve spoken to has heard anything and it says they are still accepting applications. They were supposed to make hiring decisions by April 22nd. If they wait any longer to tell people if they’re hired or not, then they won’t have staff because everyone will find summer employment elsewhere. |
At my school, we were told that our class sizes will increase due to cutting teaching staff, but supports will decrease because we will lose our bilingual counselor, 504 counselor, and other key non-teaching staff. The decision was made to share the pain by shaking up what people usually teach. The result is 100 unhappy people instead of the 5-6 who might have transferred. |
