J.K. Rowling’s post on trans-identity and modern misogyny

"Yes, I slapped her and I'm not sorry. But it wasn't sustained abuse."

Gee, guy, you aren't the judge of that. And you still haven't figured that out.

And then there was the Brian DePalma movie years and years ago "Dressed to Kill." And of course, who can forget the movie "Psycho" with men dressing as women who kill women?

Is it possible some of us women are actually afraid of sharing our "safe spaces" like public restrooms with trans women?

Only if you’re very stupid and are also terrified of dolls because of “Chucky”.

You can be abused and also still hold harmful opinions and use your platform to spread them. She is both. She doesn’t get a pass on harming transgender people now because she survived DV.

I don't understand. She is harming transgender people by saying XX women are not the same as XY trans women biologically?
How can that not be true?

The big one that gets me is when XY women want to compete in sports as women. Great, so now men can smash all our world records and ensure no biological woman will ever win a medal, step the F down.
I’m curious why trans people make it about gender? I thought it was about feeling like you were born in the wrong body. Like, a butch lesbian isn’t any less of a woman for having a buzzed head and working on motorcycles. Why does feeling comfortable wearing a dress and growing your hair long make you a woman if you have a penis?

My thoughts exactly in the first paragraph. There are a lot of us who love trans people, but this point in particular hurts me as a woman. As someone who is female. Trans people aren’t listening anymore. All they see is hate and you are wrong and you don’t understand, blah, blah, but the truth is that it goes both ways. They want to shut down anyone who disagrees with them. But we have a valid point, and concerns. So please listen and don’t disregard it. I am not happy with trans people suddenly competing in sports for women. They will always be at an unfair advantage and it’s disingenuous to think otherwise. I also don’t care for a trans competing in beauty pageants like Miss Universe. While drop dead gorgeous, when I saw Miss Spain last year, it broke my heart as a born woman. What like my actual, born with femininity wasn’t enough? A person who was once a man actually took a spot that should have been given to an actual biological female? It’s insulting, given all the crap that has been thrown at us females for so long. The fight just to be seen, heard and taken seriously, and then this? Why can’t those of you who disagree see that there is a point here and a frustration among women who have had to fight for so long just to have what they have. It would be demoralizing for me to be in a competition against a trans person and have an opportunity taken away from me. What I also think is that if you want to compete, maybe the olympics should have general or gender fluid races and competitions. That way we can all play fair.

See the post from trans girl's mother. Also, the trans people that I know online are angered and harmed by Rowling.

(IMHO, I don't really get it either but it's not my place to tell trans girls how to feel. It's my place to bow out of this one.)

No, it’s not your place to bow out, it’s your place to support trans people! That is allyship. It doesn’t have to personally affect you for you to care about it. It doesn’t affect JKR yet she’s thrown it all over her platform.

They don’t know any trans people so they aren’t aware how these comments hurt trans people nor do they care.

I have explained multiple times in this 21 page thread. It’s on you to do the labor to go back and read.

Ok, the part I bolded here is key to me in all of these cultural conversations that we are having:

If I disagree with you, and that makes you angry, that is not me HARMING you. By telling me that having my own opinion that disagrees with you HARMS you, that is a pretty transparent effort to shut down and censor anyone who disagrees with the current groupthink.

It kind of seems like it is.

Women’s issues are not trans women’s issues. Both groups of people have issues, but they aren’t the same.

We're all in the same group as "female." I don't care if trans women want to join. The more the merrier.
