you need to learn more adjectives. being nice to someone in need does not make one humble. |
I'm didn't do anything, and I'm not excusing anyone's behavior, just being realistic. Just explaining that a leak from law enforcement wasn't necessarily the source. Plus, have you ever spent any time on Twitter? It's a cesspool. |

It doesn't seem that any actual journalists have weighed in here, so I will. I've been a reporter for 15 years -- we never wait to get an ok from the police before calling a family for comment on a tragedy. It's sad, it sucks, but that isn't how it works. See above comments re ceding control of a free press, nanny state etc.
Before working in journalism, I worked for a member of Congress who died in a tragic, unexpected way. Guess who told me and my coworkers, who were all in the office at the time? The media. We immediately sent a staffer to the home of the deceased to try to break news gently -- we didn't make it there before the media.it was likely different in the 1950s, but not in past 20 years. |

Speaking of media: BBC ran a Kobe Bryant tribute piece with basketball footage all of LeBron James.
If only there was a way to check what a basketball player’s name is ... |
Nobody cares about this site at all. (No offense to whoever owns it, but cmon) We’re talking about mainstream media who is trashing the guy when he was still smoldering in the plane. That’s uncalled for. And yes, to many kids, whether you want to believe it or not, he was a hero to many millennials and gen y people growing up. Including myself. He was an inspirational figure for many youths who didn’t have a path of where they were going. Even this guy, a YouTube political figure, who gave a strong indication of how much Kobe was an inspiration for him at 31 years old. https://youtu.be/jLJUr08s_4U Some of you wine moms read one or two articles and make a judgement call on a guy. We need to stop this. That family not only lost their father, but their sister, at the same time. Let time pass before we all cast judgement. |
Well said. He was way more than a ball player to many |

He was a devout Roman Catholic, not perfect, but deeply spiritual. |
You need to learn a little bit about the word ‘humble’. He didn’t just help people in need, but took time with fans, and used his platform to help lots of people. Now, if you want to discuss the fact that his DNA had an ego attached to it, ok you got me. Any NBA player to get to that league has an ego as it comes with the confidence to be great and expectations to be there. However, as much as any NBA player, the last 20 years, he used it for some good off the court. On the court, he thought he was the best and he was, as he’d try to crush you. |
again, helpful, friendly, generous and humble are different things. i don't understand why you insist that he must be humble - the work nobody ever used to describe him while he was alive. |
In my home state we lost a senator when a helicopter collided with his plane. The helicopter accident occurred over an elementary school in Lower Merion Township, where Kobe was from. |
Whoa. Such foreshadowing for his future. |

The entire premise of the prior two posts is wrong. No one is trying to hurt the family. I seriously doubt Kobe’s wife is on DCUM. Pointing out his faults and questioning why people are treating him as someone he wasn’t is not “demonizing” him. It’s telling a balanced account of who he is.
Yes. People screw up. And yes people are often portrayed positively in obituaries. But give the over the top statements about him (hero etc.) it’s absolutely fair, and more accurate, to give the full picture. Nobody cares about this site at all. (No offense to whoever owns it, but cmon) We’re talking about mainstream media who is trashing the guy when he was still smoldering in the plane. That’s uncalled for. Proving that all Americans look the same to the British. |
| Was the flight a case of get-there-itis, an aviation phenomenon? |
Like John Kennedy’s flight that went down. |
