| By nearly eliminating residential mental health facilities, the mentally ill are on the streets. |
| Congress eliminated funding for mental health residential facilities, using horror stories as their cover. We're left with minimal care for the mentally ill and they're on the streets. Very few commit violent crimes but all are in need of more help. It is a common good, the burden of which we all should share. |

So I’m supposed to be home before 5:00 pm from October to March, and only run errands/jog in the middle of the day. Except on golf courses. And look out for 360 degrees of strange men while I’m walking in the middle of hundreds of people so I don’t get attacked and them blamed for my attack.
For everyone who made “suggestions” on how women can keep ourselves safe, WE’RE ALREADY DOING THEM! What more can we do? We are citizens who deserve to live and work and safely be in public. |
It reminded me of Kitty Genovese and the bystander effect. So scary though. I agree it’s hard to tell how anyone will react in emergency situations before it actually happens. Once my shirt caught on fire in the kitchen while cooking and my one roommate just stood there screaming (but was apparently unable to help in an emergency). Another got water to throw on me. |
Yeah, I would hope I would try to help, but I'm not medically trained and have never faced a similar scenario so I have no idea. Let's just praise the people who did help. |
| I hope the Amazon execs who are deciding HQ2 are paying attention. Someone should send this thread to them. Until DC gets a grip on its out of control homeless population and crime in general, this city is not ready for prime time. Amazon would be wise to look elsewhere. |
Like some other city where random murders happen? |
Like a jurisdiction that enforces its laws. Come to think of it, maybe Ashburn. |
Indeed |
| I wonder if DC has more random crime than other cities? |
He's 22. He was 15 years from being born when Reagan left office. But that shouldn't deter you from a political jab, amirite?!?! |
Why was a clearly troubled person roaming the streets with a knife? |
Who broke your heart so long ago? |
| 14 29, you aren't that great at history, amirite? |
And they still couldn't save her, could they? She had a lethal wound. She was irreversibly dead the instant that knife went in, and no amount of heroic bystanders would've been able to change that. Why are you shaming those people?!?! They were scared. You would be too. You're disgusting. |
