Just because you survived doesn’t mean it was a safe activity when you did it. That’s called survivor bias.

That's how racists do othering and dehumanizing of immigrants. They are raping our women, eating our dogs, pushing our drunkards in water. Yes, migrants can be criminals just like rest of the population of the country but immigrant and criminal aren't synonymous.

The story we’re being told doesn’t add up. He was obviously robbed.

Obviously, he was robbed and then decided to go for a swim as one does in those situations.

Who goes alone for a swim after losing their phone in another country? Dude took drugs or was drugged?

Without a phone you not only lack the ability to communicate with friends, you lack maps and GPS, you lack money if you were using digital payment apps, and you lack the ability to order an uber.

If he was robbed of his phone the persons responsible should be charged with manslaughter at the very least.

This^. Phones are a lifeline now, theft or robbery of one should be treated as an accessory to a murder if person ends up dead.

you are a disgusting human being

Nobody is saying what happened wasn't tragic but doing drinks and drugs at a foreign nightclub past midnight is a stupid move to make yourself a target and putting yourself in danger. This is a sad loss and my heart goes out for poor parents who are living this nightmare.

Bottom line is that more should be done to lower crime and to make people use common sense to avoid becoming a target. We can't make world 100% safe but certainly can do better than where world is right now.

The poor kid was not a "target" of any crime that is in any way related to his death. You should start another thread.

To be fair, he was a rich kid but this could've happened to a poor kid who was there on some aid assisted program and went out with friends.

We don't know yet, police investigators in tourism economy based areas aren't too reliable.

"While foul play is ruled out, investigators are still awaiting final toxicology results (which can take several weeks) to determine if alcohol or potential drugging influenced his behavior leading up to the fall."

If he just walked, could it be suicide? May be he was taking prescription drugs which had interaction with alcohol and drugs? May be went to pee and slipped?

Jet lag and too much alcohol without drugs can impair judgement on its own.

Just stop with the conspiracy theories and be rational. The police have video. The parents went to Barcelona. There's no doubt in my mind that the police have already shared the video with the parents. I am not an expert on Spanish law, but assuming it's not legally required it wouldn't surprise me if the video were never made public -- it's neither in the public interest nor fair to the family for a video to circulate world wide of the poor kid falling into the water to his death.

Days have now passed. I'm not hearing anything from the parents about suspecting foul play, police malfeasance, or any kind of cover-up. Are you? If you are, please enlighten the rest of us. Until then, you're not doing the poor kid's family any favors by continuing to spread your bullshit, and the same can be said about anybody else who is speculating about his death on this thread.

Last I checked wearing a short skirt doesn’t impair judgment. Drinking does. Not the same.

No one said it impaired judgment.
