I walked past the kids' elementary school on my way home. Part of the sidewalk is a little icy but generally safe. Wisconsin is open. My elementary-age kids go to one of those schools and have been walking there since yesterday to meet up with friends! Our car got plowed in, which was annoying, but it wasn't that hard to shovel it out. All to say, we probably could have had school today even and been fine ...

It is a beautiful day outside. Also, beyond driving, there are many options to go to these elementary schools which are near the metro.

How does one get to the metro. Wow there are a lot of people who have no idea the conditions throughout the DMV. Should a teacher walk five miles to the metro

Do you people hate your own children so much you have to pawn them off on the schools the minute you are inconvenienced. JFC. The entitlement here never ceases to amaze me. Side roads that are plowed in DC are barely passable in one direction. How do you suppose busses and carpools get through these neighborhoods? It’s as if some of you look out your own window and decide it looks fine from your castle so the rest of the world must experience what you do. The inability to consider any other scenario is so foreign to some of you that I’m astounded you’re precious littles even mix with the others.

As I’m sure you can comprehend, if a critical mass of faculty/staff cannot get to school, school can’t open. There are MANY unplowed and totally boxed in residential roads, still. That’s why schools are closed. Not because teachers are “entitled.” Once enough roads are open such that sufficient staff can be expected to be able to make it in on time, school will open.

Try to keep up. Many people are saying schools will be cancelled beyond Tuesday.

Perhaps you should consider the factors in this particular storm, instead of spouting your "expertise" from living in Michigan.

Thank you to the person who makes sense and quoted experts! I’m native to the area and every 10 or so years we get some sort of weird blizzard. This one was truly epic. In my 45 years here I have never seen it ice this dangerously.

I told my friends in the south that our snow is still not plowed, and the schools are still closed. He is shocked!! It has been days!! And the streets are still a mess?
