Not staff and not worried. I haven’t heard anyone offer a substantive defense of ML’s brief time in leadership during his putsch attempt last spring and don’t know anyone who thinks he did a good job even if they weren’t wild about RS. Why would this be different?

This thread is 20+ pages of claims of “not worried”. Bizarre.

New here? Of course people are interested in discussing an attempt to start a club especially one that seems to be born out of spite and drama. It doesn't mean any of the local clubs are "worried". Rbfc doesn't seem to have any leagues, fields, or plans to be worried about it.

I have several kids at GFR at all levels. I'm personally not worried that R(b)FC will be successful. Based on the track record of the people involved and the mechanics of local fields and leagues there is zero chance it will succeed and they will be at each others' throats in a few months (it sounds like some already are). That is the way these things always work. But what I am worried about is that several members of the ML crew are personally engaging personalities and loud (and unfair) complainers. They are exactly the kind of pied pipers that can convince parents that have not been around the block with local youth soccer enough to know that all clubs have issues to move their kids over and in the process hurt the depth of my kids' teams. The ML cronies are the same group of people that convinced a bunch of 2012 and 2013 girls to go to Loudoun East for this season for the 2013s to be a middling NCSL Div. 2 team and for the 2012s to not win a game all fall. Ask those parents how great that decision was.

It will be geographically impossible for them to reach a level of success that will threaten GFR for at minimum 5 but more reasonably 10 years and that will mean everything has to go their way, all the stars align, etc. - they are also in McLean's backyard so that doesn't help the challenges they'll face. Good for them for giving it a go despite all that!

still no real information yet on this club? is there even a mailing list or something or do we just have to go by the random, elusive social media posts?

Is this the marketing strategy?

That is not a good strategy.

I think they just don't have any information and are desperately trying to keep people's interest while they scramble.

There was some similar language taunting parents in the GFR forum a few months back - winter is coming, etc. - just poor taste in my opinion. Parents turning youth soccer into a popularity contest or business strategy with no regards for the kids. Sad.

I don't know any of these people and only follow for the drama but it is incredibly strange and unusual to start a new club and then just post these obscure statements for months.

Agreed. I’m in MD and don’t know who any of the drama but still intrigued by whatever is going on over there and wondering what the real story is

Shows they are participating in USL-Y on their webpage? Anyone know anything about that? Seems crazy that USL-Y would allow another team in this area, especially sandwiched between GFR and MYS?

What would make you think that USL-Y would turn away any teams?

You have to apply so I assume it's not a given? And there must be some sort of geographic considerations? They are trying to expand outside of their current zones.
