And this forum is a magnet for football recruits so ND should be scared.

Alums should be embarrassed. If I see a ND sticker on a car I’ll definitely look down on that person.

Do you look down on everyone associated with every organization when someone in it makes a bad decision? Do you look down on all people flying American flags when the administration does something terrible? All employees of a comany when the CEO maked a poor decision?

Not the poster whom you quoted. I agree that the ND football situation should not result in denigrating everything & everyone associated with this outstanding university, however the reality is that the University of Notre Dame and Notre Dame football are inseparable; the arrogance of Notre Dame football and its fans has created a situation where folks and institutions are tired of bowing down to ND football--yet we will still do so if the University and its football program and its AD act in a more dignified manner regarding this heartbreaking situation.

Important context for the future of the ND Football program:

Marcus Freeman is at ND to stay. According to AD Pete Bevacqua, MF's contract is a "living and breathing" document that adjusts as needed to keep him happy. Marcus loves ND. He even converted to Catholicism once he was on the staff there. He is 100% ND through and through.

2026 recruiting class is said to be the best in the country with zero decommits.

Starting with next season, if ND is ranked 12 or below, they are guaranteed a spot in the CFP. This eliminates the issue of being first one out. If this were in the agreement this year, ND would have been in over JMU or Tulane. This agreement will help them until it moves to a 16 team playoff scenario.

Agree that if HC Freeman leaves, so will the recruits & returnees.

But, what good does it do for Notre Dame to have stellar recruiting classes if ND football cannot beat top teams and plays an overwhelmingly mediocre schedule ?

The two losses were by a total of 4 points to top teams. ND won every single other game by a huge margin.

ND played and beat Penn State, Georgia, and Indiana during the CFP earlier this year and late last year. You people have very short memories.

I think people mistake independence for arrogance. Being independent isn't arrogant, it is simply what it is. Unfortunately for others, they don't have the luxury of being independent. ND does. And as long as it continues to pay off, they will continue. This is just a little bump in the road. It will smooth out soon enough. It always does.

Stumbled across this x post last night, which highlights one of those bumps ND got over many years ago.

That's one perspective. Many find Notre Dame football and its AD to be arrogant as well as independent.

This is embarrassing. Why does ND need a Top 10 recruiting class to play this schedule? This is a Group of 5 one.

Other than Wisconsin, U Miami, and USC, the schedule is average to weak. Notre Dame's strength of schedule will be ranked closer to #50 for next season (it was either #42 or #44 this year depending upon the source).

Why is it that ND fans have trouble understanding that the CFP is for the 2025-2026 season?

First of all, they are required to play 5 ACC games every year. So not sure what they could do to change that.

Second, they play Navy, USC and Stanford every year. That makes 8 games out of the 12.

Third, the rest of the games are scheduled may years in advance. There is no way to know what these teams will be like so far in advance.

Do they play a SEC like schedule? Of course not. They never did and they don't have to. Despite that, they destroyed Indiana, Penn State, and Georgia in the playoffs less than a year ago.
