Van Hollen in El Salvador

Focus on the mess Trump is making of the economy. That is clear and a winnable issue.

Focus on the closure of rural health and Head Start. So many stories from parents who rely on Head Start to highlight.

Focus on all the losses to science through the NIH and university research cuts and how this jeopardizes our status as an innovator.

Focus on grocery store prices. Pick someone from the Midwest and have them report on their grocery bill weekly.

Focus on the oligarchy AOC/Sanders message. Highlight the conflict of interest inherent in sending out all social security statements over X.

Focus on the poor woman kidnapped from Tufts by plain clothed ICE officers.

There is so much to chose from. The Dems have money to do their research. I just don’t understand how they can keep picking up winnable issues?!?

To me, it would be unacceptable for Dems to stay quiet about illegal deportations. I'm often skeptical of slippery slope arguments, but Trump has made clear his desire to send us citizens to El Salvador and his belief he can violate the law.

This goes beyond politics. This is a fundamental human rights issue.

Sure. So focus on that message - that Trump has said he will send US citizens to prison in El Salvador and highlight the percentage of death row cases with innocent men.

But digging in to defend the Maryland Dad after the court docs showing claims of abuse is not a winning message in the court of public opinion.

Due process is an argument too complex.

I’m not arguing that what has been done is not horrible and an injustice but Dems need to be monitoring the front page of FoxNews to understand why Trumps approval rating is not in the 20s.

They need to think critical in about winnable messages.

F. He has never been convicted of a crime in El Salvador OR in the U.S., so sending him to PRISON in El Salvador makes no sense
.

That is not true. Stop lying.

He was convicted of a restraining order for domestic violence. His wife admitted he abused her for THREE YEARS. Get your facts straight!

That is not a conviction my friend and it doesn’t negate someone’s right to due process. You can be a shit person and still deserve due process, just like every shit person is entitled to a robust defense in court. And it matters for us all that we don’t just say due process doesn’t matter.

Chris Van Hollen is prioritizing bringing one really “shit person” (who is probably a former gang member) to the USA even though he is a citizen of El Salvador, and not a U.S. citizen.

That’s the gist here.

He is prioritizing not letting the Trump admin get away with violating someone’s due process rights. Some people are choosing to not see this because they’re too blinded by WHO the person is. If Van Hollen got him back, the Trump admin could then proceed to terminate his asylum status and revoke his legal residency and deport him to a country that is NOT El Salvador. That is within their and his rights. They cannot just send a person *to prison* in another country without cause and say “oh well.” It’s remarkable that people cannot separate these two things. And how many of them will happily be celebrating Easter on Sunday - you think Jesus would leave Kilmar there unjustly? He wouldn’t.

You’re probably a former gang member. I vote we deport you to Cecot. And even if you are American per Trump it’s still okay to deport you.

No I will continue to argue and fight for due process even if there are a bunch of people too stupid to comprehend the concept. Fighting for our country is our patriotic duty. I have relatives that died fighting for those ideals. We are not going to back down on this issue.

Not everything is about politics or "winning".

I am grateful Van Hollen is standing up for human rights even if not all Americans can appreciate it. He is doing our country a great service. If Americans don't want basic due process rights, that's not on Van Hollen. He should do the right thing and he is doing it, thank God.

Taxpayer dollars to try and visit a criminal, who beat his wife/gf in Maryland. Thankfully, VanH made numerous videos, cause this is the end of his career.

Unless he really wants to be a member of the Squad

He has zero criminal convictions.

If due process is too complex a concept for the average voter than we are already lost.

I don't agree. I think due process is a core value than all of us can get behind.

Van Hollen is an embarrassment. Running to El Salvador on behalf of a MS-13 wife beater illegal alien on the taxpayers’ dime Where is his support for Maryland resident/ mother of five Rachel Morin and her family? Ironic that Rachel’s MS-13 murder/rapist was convicted the same week Van Hollen flew to El Salvador.

Nope this is not the end of his career. Marylanders fully support this action because they like rule of law and people who stand against tyranny and Trump’s lunacy. VanHollen star is in the rise.

And yet no one is embarrassed by Van Hollen, but the entire nation is embarrassed by its President and his merry band of sycophant’s intend on destroying the fabric of the country for their own greed and ego.

“Due process is an argument too complex.”

Wow, people get angry when MAGA or Trump supporters get called dumb but you basically did just that.

This is the MAGA issue. They think this is a PR battle. Who has the better story. It isn't. It is about Trump dumping on the constitution. Once this is permitted, there will be no stopping. And as much as MAGA believes their messiah will remain in office after 1/20/2029, he won't. And all subsequent administrations will similarly not feel the constraints of the US Constitution. And this will be 100% the fault of MAGA.

Evangelical Churches? Taxed.
Liberty and Pepperdine Universities? Taxed
Groups the espouse anti-DEI positions? Outlawed.
Speak in favor of Zionism or Israel? Deported. To Yemen.

You guys really want to set the stage for that?

VH won with 60-something percent. If the election were remotely close, this kind of thing would push him to 70 or 80 something in MD.
