Did Carrie Coon like it? Co-starred with Justin in Leftovers and now Nicole is on Gilded Age.

Though Carrie doesn't seem to be very active on Instagram -- looks like someone on her staff runs it.

My impression is that Carrie and Justin were colleagues not friends. She habitually referred to him as her "scene partner." Look, we all know Justin paid little attention to women close to his own age. Even during the Leftovers he was photographed hanging out with the younger girls. Hopefully nothing untoward there, but his recent partners seem to have overlooked some glaring red flags. The one exception I can think of is Ann Dowd; they seemed to have a genuine rapport. Doubt she's the social media type.

I also get the general impression that Carrie is very professional, leaves work and focuses on her family life. A good bit older than Nicole, no reason to think they'd have much in common. Nicole is very close to Meryl Streep's daughter on the Gilded Age though. Also, Nicole had a very small role.

Justin just interviewed Carrie about her current play on Broadway. They are obviously not close friends but lots of mutual respect for one another's work. They talk about Nicole (who Carrie calls very talented), mention Ann Dowd as a great mutual friend, discuss being an actor with young kids (Carrie talks about how hard it is to do theater with kids and the schedule does sound awful), whether Justin will ever do theater again (it's been a long time but he'd do a short run if asked), and then lots of shop talk about Carrie's play and acting and working with her husband (Tracy Letts, actor/playwright who wrote her current play back when they were both with Steppenwolf in Chicago).

He doesn't come off as a red flag. The both seem charming.

No one said he can't be charming. The opposite in fact.

Carrie Coon is a major talent, kind of bummed she's stuck in GA tbh. A limited, mediocre role compared to many of her others. Hope the series ends soon. Normally she's so discerning, not sure why she accepted the part. Glad she's able to do some theater in the meantime.

I think she likes doing TV. And she's always doing theater. Even though Gilded Age is kind of hammy, I think Coon is really enjoying the role and likes getting to work with Morgan Spector, who I think has a similar ethos to Coon. The show is also loaded with other great actors, like Christine Baranski, Audra McDonald, and Donna Murphy. It's probably a great paycheck for a job she only has to do like two months at a time with big gaps in between, and that films in NY so she can go home to her actual house every night instead of filming on location somewhere. And then she can do theater or other projects in between as she wants. That's a really good gig for her. Plus high profile as one of HBO's Sunday night featured shows, so positive for her career.

I bet Justin Theroux would love a similar gig, actually. The TV he's done recently has all been these sort of niche streamer shows with much more limited audiences. Probably decent pay but nowhere near the level of exposure of what Coon has gotten with GA and White Lotus in the last few years.

Good point about Coon and Gilded Age. But for some reason I thought she lives in the midwest, not NY?

Anyway, I wonder if she uses the big HBO money to invest in her husband's shows, too. Theater is a very tough business these days.

Nicole Bloom was good as Maud Beaton - I didn’t know that was her.

No, I doubt they are funding Tracy's work with her HBO money.

Tracy Letts is a lauded playwright and actor. He's won three Pulitzers for his plays. His three most famous plays (August: Osage County, Killer Joe, and Bug) have all been adapted into movies, I think he wrote the screenplays for all three. He has won multiple Tony awards, for both writing and acting. He's known for doing small roles in big movies -- you would probably recognize him but not be able to place him because he's been doing these little character roles in really major films for like 20 years. He's extremely well respected. His plays get major investors. Even, yes, in this tough business. Until a few years ago, Tracy was definitely the more famous and successful one in their marriage, though Coon has always been a respected stage actress and of course her work on Leftovers is beloved (but not widely known -- she didn't even get an Emmy nomination for that show somehow).

Coon has performed in several of his plays, both in their first run, or in the case of her current show, productions of established work (Letts wrote the play Bug that Coon is currently starring in like 20 years ago, maybe longer). But his career doesn't depend on her success at all. They have both independently built very successful but niche careers on stage and in Hollywood. People like them and want to work with them because they work incredibly hard and are so skilled at what they do. They could both do more film work and more commercial stuff if they wanted, but they prefer to take on challenging, interesting projects and don't really seem to care about being ultra famous or getting some giant payday.

They are both from the midwest and met in Chicago but have been NY based for years because of their work on and off Broadway. They live in Westchester now.

Agree, she's good. It's a tricky role, too. But perhaps done at this point?

Revolting. I know his type, they die alone and unhappy, and never fix their own issues.
Newsflash- married people are lone, too. It’s lonelier in a bad relationship than being on your own. The divorce rate is huge for a reason.
Also, most people that have been married, don’t want to do it again so your thinking is way outdated.

Time will tell.

Right? Color me skeptical.

+1 Once Justin's not the center of Nicole's life, look out. Just cannot see him playing happy family for long. Hopefully I'm wrong, for that baby's sake.

He was a nasty cheater when he was with Jennifer so I have very little hope things have changed. I don't think hes fit for monogamy

+1 And his very recent history of dating 18-20 year old women does not reflect well on his character. How could he possibly be a good guy? That's predator behavior.

And didn’t she break off her engagement for Justin? Neither one seems to have a lot of integrity. They are in it for the publicity.

It might work out then. Similar values and goals is one of the best predictors of marital success.

It's because their friendships with him pre-dated their friendships with Jennifer: the Stillers, Kimmels, and Paul Rudd. The Kimmels are the only ones who ended up in her inner circle. She's worked with the others and they were friendly, but not close per se. I don't think Billy Crudup and Naomi Watts attended the wedding, which surprised me. They've known him forever. Maybe they were working. I think Will Arnett and Sean Hayes are closer to JA and the Batemans than Theroux. So there was a relatively clean division of friendships after the split. But she remained friendly with him, so not like friends had to choose even if they may have had their opinions.

I doubt it's for the publicity per se, since neither one is all that famous. They can walk around NYC with no fanfare. Jen's new BF has almost as many Insta followers as Theroux now, and she is a 30-something character actress who's had a few meaty but smaller roles in big projects. Too soon to tell how her career will go.

As for the integrity thing, good point. Someone posted upthread both have a history of trading up, which doesn't bode well. And his history is concerning.

Individually, you are right they’re not that famous but together they are. Do you think Nicole would’ve had a Vanity Fair spread about her wedding if she had married the investment banker she was originally engaged to? No.

And people mainly care about Justin because he dated Jen. His every move from his wedding to this baby announcement people are tracking Jen’s moves. Did she like the post? Does she wish him well? Is she pining after a baby? Which is of course ridiculous because she’s living her life and seems quite happy but she will always be the victim since Brad left her for a beautiful woman who he had six kids with…. only she got the last laugh cause he turned out to be hardly father of the year and ALL six kids are estranged from him, and apparently he was a drunk and a pot addict for 30 years. She dodged a bullet, but that’s never the story.

It saddens me when women purposefully seek out wealthy men just to have a baby and be financially secure.

Doesn’t she come from a lot of money? She should have just done donor sperm and not take a risk with his aging sperm if that was the plan.

I think she’s dumb and thinks this will work out. I feel sorry for her. But yes financially she will be fine.

I agree they won't last but I don't actually think he's that wealthy. Child support payments over 18 years might supplement her acting income nicely (presuming her career continues to go well, but she's rather plain and really nothing special as an actress) but won't exactly permit a life of luxury. Guarantee she signed an ungenerous prenup.

He has 10’s of millions vs Jen who has 100’s of millions. He’s wealthy. His family also wealthy. The schools he went to were expensive.

There is no evidence he has tens of millions. His highest paying role was the Leftovers. The bulk of his roles are supporting. His apartment was cheap when he bought it many years ago and he decorated it with junk until Jen A paid to renovate it. I think his dad was a corporate lawyer and he may have a modest trust but he is not uber wealthy. I’d put his net worth at $10m max, but likely lower.

Internet says he’s worth 40 million

Internet nw estimates are notoriously wrong.

+1 No way he's worth $40 million. How?

He also wrote screen play for iron man 2. Probably made a lot from that one.
