I hate the casino idea but I hate the decimation of the constitution, the economy and public safety that the feds are engaged in way more. And I am glad that we have a governor and other state level electeds to stand up for us now.

Building a casino will play into Trump’s / MAGA’s hands, you’ll see. The Dem pushing it was formerly GOP.

I could not give a damn about party politics. Why is everything being turned into democrat/republican debate, when there is an objective serious issue here? A gambling establishment has no place in a residential community, in the center of commerce, where a lot of people go to WORK DAILY, shop, commute, etc. There is a reason casinos are isolated and harder to get to. People going about their daily lives will not be able to avoid it. Might as well open a bunch of payday loan offices, pawn shops and check cashing places all around it.

The politics come from the influence of the unions which make campaign contributions to the D politicians supporting this. The unions are hoping for artificially inflated compensation for union members, funded by the suckers who will patronize the casino, who will be required to use part of their compensation for union dues, to support union officials who make campaign contributions to D politicians. It's a self-reinforcing cycle. No union campaign contributions to Ds, no casino.

You could have not voted for the party that literally ran on pushing the casino forward, but that is obviously crazy talk.

People in northern VA will line up to vote for people that will destroy their own neighborhoods if it means they get to signal disapproval of the other team…

Interesting to see how the payoffs are going, Surovell’s red suit is an interesting look.

Don't reflexively vote D. Recognize the voracious and rapacious D appetite for ever-increasing amounts of income to redistribute to people who will vote D in return for increasing government largesse. Don't kid yourself that voting D locally benefits the average homeowner and taxpayer in any tangible way, instead of the opposite.

The problem is that states run by Rs are banning abortion, legalizing discrimination against people, trying to overturn gay marriage rights, implementing crazy anti vaccine laws that threaten kids health, banning books in schools, requiring bible study in public schools, etc. I hate a lot of the dems tax and spend policies, but my kids becoming disabled or dying from measles is worse. I would rather be taxed more than live in a state run by crazy people untethered from reality who think ivermectin can cure the flu and that Covid Vaccines cause cancer.

Surovell really could get a lot of local Democrats like McKay, Bierman, and Palchik tossed out of office if he gets his way. They are all from the same party so if they can’t rein him in screw them all.

In a couple months, you will start to see support swell as Stockholm syndrome sets in.

I'd rather be taxed less, mind my own business, and have more of my own money to spend as I see fit, than to have the government decide for me. The Ds have chosen to advance far-left policies around trans issues, immigration, criminal "justice", and many other social issues. Rs at least stand generally for less regulation and for smaller government, as well as for less taxes. Neither party is ideal, for sure, but the Ds both represent lunatic fringe social issues along with high taxes. The Rs are the lesser evil.

Of course not. Reflexive voting for candidates by party affiliation without bothering to drill down into what they actually intend is how you end up with policies you don't support, because many Ds are left-wing loonies, and plenty of Rs are unbalanced the other way. You have to examine each candidate on their own merits, not by simple party affiliation.

I’m honestly curious - can you tell me what states have proposals to overturn gay marriage rights? ChatGPT isn’t reporting any - which obviously isn’t definitive - so I’d love to let it know to update its results.

Idaho passed a resolution calling on the Supreme Court to overturn the gay marriage ruling in January 2025. Tennessee literally just advanced a bill out of the house committee that would allow healthcare workers and hospitals to discriminate against gay couples due to personal beliefs.

He tried to do many of these things but failed because he did not control of the legislature. He advocated for a 15 week abortion ban after pretending to respect Virginia voters views in 2021. He vetoed bills that would prevent other states from targeting licensed medical professionals in Virginia that are legally providing abortion services in Virginia. He vetoed a bill that would protect the individual right to have birth control and IUDs in two separate years. As for the Rs in the state senate 84% of them voted against putting the constitutional amendment to protect gay marriage on the ballot in 2025. So yes, these statements are factually accurate and no I’m not a blindly partisan person. He is a snake, I would gladly vote for someone with integrity like Phil Scott or Charlie Baker, but we don’t get any sane governor candidates from that side of the aisle in VA anymore.

Your kids are welcome to take as many vaccines as you see fit. Others can suffer for their stupidity.

The bible should be studied in school, because of its fundamental influence on western society, just like Aristotle and other greek philosophers should be studied. Doesn't mean you have to believe/evangelize, but so much of classical lit-19th century lit becomes more accessible if you have the benefits of a "classical" education. It's like trying to read classical Japanese/Chinese literature without foundational knowledge of Buddism or Shintoism. You won't get the majority of the references. Heck, try reading Locke's treatises divorced of a Christian background; a lot of it doesn't make sense even of Locke might not have been a believer himself.
