I applaud you for fighting the good fight but you're never going to win on this board. The goal of posters on here (as they state) is for there to be a 10 mph speed limit everywhere. But then when people still die, they'll want cars banned entirely. I think the folks on here are the type that get in the left lane on I-95 and go 45 mph, and thereby cause major backups and a dangerous situation as everyone tries to manuveur around them, but are so proud of how virtuous they are by going under the speed limit. |

If only we had some real life examples where these projects have already happened. Then we could simply look at the data and see whether or not they work.
For instance. Has either Connecticut or 16th gotten safer since 2021? Has traffic on the side streets around them increased since 2021? Have those side streets gotten safer? How have congestion patterns changed? We have at least two examples with three years of history. What has happened? |

The POINT is that you keep lying and saying this kid was on Georgia. So now you can stop talking about the 4 year old who died. Rest his soul, it's irrelevant to your argument |
It's evidence that an actual four-year-old child was killed in the Georgia Avenue corridor - on Kennedy at Georgia. If you don't like sitting in a car on Georgia, being blocked by other people sitting in their cars on Georgia, consider taking a bus. |
He was not on Georgia when he was struck while standing in the center of Kennedy St. These are two different streets which is why they have different names. |
Most drivers who feel trapped on bottlenecked Georgia Ave and going to turn off and conrtinue down a side street in their vehicle. I'm sorry your thesis fell apart. |
Then they can deal with the associated speed humps and raised crosswalks and speed cameras and red light cameras. It's their choice. |

what if the pedestrian dies after being hit by a car being driven lawfully at the speed limit and not at all too fast (20 or 25) with the right of way and breaking no laws? What if the pedestrian wasn't following the law and they die? How would you respond to that? |
So to confirm, you're fine with diverting traffic from a designated arterial like Georgia Ave onto residential streets like, for example, Farragut St where a bunch of kids live. Correct? |
Kids live on Georgia Avenue too. Drivers will have the following choices: 1. Drive slowly on Georgia Avenue. 2. Drive slowly not on Georgia Avenue. 3. Use a transportation mode that is not driving (for example, a bus). 4. Forego the trip. |
Other poster is a nutcase. Being freaking 10 feet in crossing Kennedy to continue down Georgia doesn't count in their twisted, addled, gasoline fumed reduced brain cell count mind. Just like major injuries don't count, only fatalities. And only fatalities where the cops somehow landed at a "speeding vehicle" as the cause. |

Stop lying about where the child died, and everyone will stop correcting you. None of this happened on Georgia Avenue. |
WASHINGTON — The mother of four-year-old Zy'aire Joshua is pleading for safety upgrades after her son was hit and killed by a car Thursday afternoon near the corner of Georgia Avenue and Kennedy Street Northwest just before 3:30 p.m. D.C. Police said the four-year-old was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk when he was hit. Zy'aire's mom, Shaquan Smith, said the walk sign had turned on, indicating it was safe for pedestrians to cross. Smith said she was walking across the street with her new baby in the stroller, five-year-old at one side, when she watched in horror as the car hit Zy'aire and dragged him down the street. WUSA9 reached out to D.C. Police about what the mother had told our station, but they did not provide further specifics about why its department said about the child reportedly crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk. Zy'aire's uncle, Donald, said he has a five-year-old son that used to play with Zy'aire all the time. So, when he heard the news about his nephew, his heart shattered. “That could have been my son. It could have been anyone else’s kid," Joshua said. "Georgia Avenue, people been speeding through there for years, just not paying attention to kids.” Both he and his sister are frustrated that more safety changes weren't installed along Georgia Ave. before Zy'aire's death. “They need to do something about that speeding and put some cameras and speed bumps so this doesn’t happen to another child," Smith said. "These are innocent kids who are only four or three years old and have a whole life ahead of him." Her brother, Donald, is pleading for the government to take action now. "Please do something about it, we're begging you," he said.
