You are putting words in his mouth. He never said his wife's life "meant nothing." He said that SHE would be the first to tell you that her life truly started when she started "living her vocation as a wife and mother." For most women who have children - this is true, whether they admit it or not.
I remember the old adage that nobody on their death bed wishes they had spent more time at the office. The important thing is relationships - family and friends. Raising children IS the most important job in the world.
I worked outside the home when my children were young. I won many awards. But, today - those awards mean nothing. What is important is that my children are grown, productive people in the world who have strong relationships with THEIR spouses and are raising happy, well adjusted children. This doesn't happen by accident. It is a result of having parents who spend time with them when they are young and serve as good role models.
And, he never demeaned women who choose to work outside the home. Instead, he relishes the idea that his wife love and is good at the role of homemaker. And, that she makes him a better father and husband by keeping him focused on what is important - family.

Are you saying the same thing about men, that they first start to live when they become husbands and fathers? Why isn’t homemaking their greatest goal? Surely it should be something men can and should aspire to.

And what do you say to those who choose the celibate religious life? Are they not living?

Right, this is the sticking point for me, as well. It is the implication that a woman’s life and everything she’s accomplished is meaningless before she becomes a wife and mother. He does NOT express the same to the men in the audience.
What a slap in the face to women who choose to serve as nuns or missionaries, to women who are infertile, or to women who choose to devote their lives in service to their communities and the world through their chosen professions. Not to mention a slap in the face to his own mother, an accomplished woman in her own right.
I’m a wife, a mother, and an engineer with a successful career. I’m proud of my career, and I love my children more than anything. Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive. If a woman wants to stay at home with her family, she has every right to do so. That isn’t the path I chose, but I support women to make that choice. Not have it dictated to them by a man who makes millions by kicking a football.

I agree but there are other things that are seriously wrong with his speech like the blasphemy. As a catholic it’s extremely alarming and it’s my responsibility as a Catholic to not allow cultish figures like him speak for me.

Only 1/5 of the United States is Catholic. But it’s probably the largest religious group unless you count Christianity as a whole. Catholicism is a type of Christianity.

But the person you’re responding to does not understand Catholicism nor do they understand vocation. Also Jesus teaches that the greatest is not getting married. Get married weak because of lust. That is what the church teaches.
