grammys 2024

Haha, same. At first I thought what the heck has she done to her hair, and by the end it seemed totally on brand.

She has such command of the stage and a level of maturity you don't see when she's at these award shows or in the suite watching Travis. Maybe this is just her security blanket like what she does when she's in a situation she's not comfortable with like any of us might be in a social situation. Performing is her wheelhouse. Being in the public eye or attending these awards shows maybe isn't and she resorts to child like behavior to cope.

I wonder if seeing up close Travis celebrate with his team mates so much made Taylor feel like she wanted to have her team up there too. She specifically said she feels so alone. Even in her concerts she has dancers and her band and singers.

I am surprised this more people haven't said it. she's under the influence of something and all of her inhibitions flew out the widow. She's touring, going to football games, and in the midst recoding her album. is that not nose candy

Or maybe Taylor was pissed that another man tried to overshadow her, demean her and call her unworthy of her award but Beyonce deserves everything.

I think Taylor is at a time where she feels she has to be the same otherwise it will wreck what she has. She can’t turn it off but I expect that she will learn from this and hopefully get a little more graceful.

She has been popular for awhile but now with her relationship with Travis, the SB, the Grammys…all good stuff for her but even for someone at her lever of success, it has to be incredibly overwhelming. FWIW, I think she is afraid of growing up. How does she move into the next phase of her life and career.

She purchases a ranch and calls it Neverland.

This. She seemed drunk or high or both. I think people aren't saying it because she has such a squeaky good girl image, but she's a mid-career pop star with a ton of money and insane amount of public scrutiny, coming off a year where she went through a very widely-discussed breakup, then dated a guy with a known drug problem and broke up with him after it was revealed he'd said a bunch of racist stuff about Ice Spice on a podcast, then started dating a football player who is known to be a heavy drinker (both Kelce brothers have been noted to drink enormous mounts of beer at post-game celebrations, something they can likely do without many repercussions because of their size but probably leads to a very alcohol-centric environment).

I think odds are very good that she's drinking more than she should be these days, maybe dabbling in other things, as a way to deal with the stress, jet lag, and scrutiny. And that is why she seemed sort of out of it but also hyper at this massive industry event.

I genuinely hope it's just a temporary issue and not a new normal for her because with her activity and stress levels, I think an actual substance issue would result in a very messy crash and burn for her. I wonder if she has people around her who can and will let her know if it's becoming a problem?

I caught that line about "I feel so alone over here" too and it was weird.

Honestly, I think she was acting erratic and weird all night. And perhaps more telling, I feel like people were responding to her in ways indicating that they thought so too. If you look at photos and videos of her on the night, there's a lot of interactions where she looks blissed out or overjoyed and the person next to her looks sort of nonplussed or even annoyed. The photos of her with Lana, Celine, SZA, Halle Bailey... I'm just getting a vibe of "oh god just take the pic so I can extract myself from conversation with this drunk crazy woman please."

But she seemed very lucid. She also performed the song (not just going through the motions ). I liked the perspective of those lyrics coming from an elder. It was well done.

Agree. The lyrics were beautiful. I was trying to explain to my Gen Z daughter that Joni is the older generation's TS. I'm a Xennial and don't even feel like my generation is familiar with her so now I'm going to dig a little more into her music.

That's an insult to Joni. So much more talented than Taylor.

We watched the TS Folklore documentary with my 70something in-laws a couple of years ago, and they were very impressed, calling TS "The Joni Mitchell of her generation."

Oh well if your ILs think so, it must be true.

I'm of Taylor's generation and I don't even think this. Why can't she just be the Taylor Swift of this generation and leave Joni out of it.

They met backstage and talked. Perhaps the show runners were telling her to hurry up as the show did run late.

Yeah, I think at the end of the day, she's not a rude person. She's just not. Love her/hate her music, you can never call her rude. So she made a gaffe, it happens. It was a big moment and she screwed up.

I mean, judge by her actions. I actually thought she was rude all night. I thought her first speech was rude and weird with the album announcement, and I thought the second one was even worse with the fake shock and her dragging Lana up and ignoring Celine and then her speech was very self-centered and lacking in awareness.

I would not previously have said she is a "rude person" but her behavior at the Grammy's was very rude IMO. I would not dismiss it as "a gaffe." Maybe she was drunk or on something, maybe she was just in a weird mood, but I found her behavior quite rude on a night filled with actually a surprising amount of sweetness and kindness, for the music industry. The fast car duet, Miley getting her first Grammy and using the opportunity to praise Mariah, that Joni performance.

Taylor and Jay were the sour notes for the evening for me and I think they are both responsible for their tacky, rude behavior. It was especially obnoxious coming from two people who are so successful and have been honored/lauded so many times.

Ig she hand't "dragged Lana" up there, you would have pointed out that Lana sang on Midnights and deserved to be up there, too.

I'm the PP who wrote that and it was the best way to explain to by 15yr old who this old lady is and why everyone was mesmerized by her performance. I know that Joni is different than TS and isn't TS, but trying to put it into perspective to the younger generation

I thought the Joni Mitchell performance was terrible.

I’m so happy to have seen Tracey Chapman and Joni Mitchel perform my very favorites from them. And nice to see Billy & Celine. Such greats.

No one would have gotten mad at Taylor for letting Lana do what she clearly wanted to do. The issue was Taylor totally overriding her friend's clear preferences to force her to do what Taylor wanted. It wasn't really about bringing her up or not.
